Some of you know her, some of you may not. She's our 6 year old Boston Terrier that goes on every trip, to work every day and never leaves our side basically.

Anyways, last night she had a unfortunate accident with another dog. It was my buddies Boxer. They were playing and the boxer scratched Dixie's eye pretty bad. Her eye was lacerated and was bleeding pretty bad. She was crying really loud. It was terrible.

We rushed to doggie ER. Where she was given drugs and some cream for her eye. Then we waited. The doctor saw the dog and explained to us that the dog would need surgery ASAP or lose the eye completely.

This morning Dixie goes into surgery at a dog eye care specialist. If all goes well, she'll have a scar on the white part of her eye. If not, she'll be somewhat blind and worst case scenario she will lose her eye.

If everyone could please cross your fingers.. we'd appreciate it. It's weird how she goes on so many trips and then gets hurt at home.

It's funny (not really) how i was just mentioning to a buddy of mine the other day, how i couldn't believe how good our life was and how something just had to give. Sucks it had to be Dixie. She's our little four legged kid.

Anyways, cross your fingers guys/gals. I appreciate you listening.

She just got out of surgery.

She did well they said and shes in recovery now.

No unexpected problems.

As far as her vision we won't know till we talk to the doctor when we pick her up.

I will let you guys know how she is later tonight.

Thanks for all the support, it means more than you know.

Poor little boston bean

My heart goes out to you and your little one. I know what it sounds like when a little boston cries, uugh. My little Joe used to hurt his little googlie eye and we always worried something like that would happen. I will say a prayer for a full recovery and sight.

Glad to hear all is well. We have a couple of 4-legged kids as well and they mean a lot to us.

Do you have Pet Insurance? - One of the best things we did was get a pet insurance policy ( VPI pet insurance). Our dogs travel everywhere with us and it has paid for itself on more than one occassion. Vet's are not cheap.

I want to thank everyone for crossing their fingers, thinking good thoughts and praying for her. We just got home and she's going to be fine. We are super happy. Broke, but happy!! Doctor said she should have her vision back like before if all goes well. It's still too early to tell. We're just happy she didn't have to loose her eye.

For now she's resting, on drugs and taking tons of different drops. She has to wear her satellite dish for 6 weeks and can't do many of the things she used to until shes recovered.. but we don't mind.

Once again thanks to all of you that thought about her, she may be just a dog... but shes family to us

I've had dogs my whole life and know how badly you can feel for them when something happens to them. Actually, I'm surprised my two haven't really injured one another yet. You can only imagine what it looks like when two Doberman's "play".
Even though it sounds like everything will be ok, I will continue to think only happy thoughts for her:)

There is no such thing as "just a dog". I am so sorry to hear about Dixie's mishap but am very happy to hear what sounds like a best possible outcome considering. Tillie has had many a close call. Bostons are the best dogs but those bug eyes are prone to injury and sun exposure. I know exactly how it feels to have badly hurt Boston, lame, and I am sending thoughts and prayers her way now and retro-active. ;)

I agree Sue and I are very close, lots of love, Dixie looks very cute with her little cone makes you feel for her.

BTW after Steve chimed in..... I have a question for you guys. Last week I was at city fest and my poor staffy burned her little paws just a tad on the hot asphalt. I was thinking of buying her some dog boots, I remember having her walking up bronco peak one day and she was toasting her little feet then too, poor girl. Also when I take her to the desert I am always worried about hot sand and cactus. Have either of you looked into this for your dogs? You guys strike me as owners who would not hesitate to pimp out your pups. I saw Dixie has a personal cot:D

Like these? I recommend them for everyone that takes their dogs to the desert:)

cool shoes

Cool, I knew one of you might know. What's the brand name and price, where did you purchase them?

Thanks Mo and everyone.

It's going to be a long 6 weeks, that's for sure.

We bought Dixie a pair.. but they didn't stay on properly. I think the key is to stay away from the Cheap walmart specials. What brand are those Steve?

Glad everything worked out so far, I have my fingers crossed for her.

How'd Yosh take it? , probably more work to calm her down than Dixie, huh?

-just a dog....right.....

I once spent 5 thousand dollars on a putting green my dog tore up.....totally worth it, even though i was fighting back the urge to strangle her when i wrote that check.

Found them "Ruffwear"

BTW sorry for the hi-jack Keep us posted on Dixie:)

Good News!!

Hang in there, 6 weeks will be gone before you know it.

If you don't have alot of experience with dogs, one think that you will see is what troopers they are. They are never burdoned with psychological effects of an injury. I think you will be amazed how quickly she's back to old self:)
