Has anyone attempted to meld two Hilux's together, to form one 4dr truck?

Ive been thinking about it, mainly because Ive come to love only one vehicle, and hate to drive anything else. Sure, power isnt always at the touch of a toe, but you cant beat it!

So, In need to haul more than two people, and not wanting to lose the utility of my bed (ie no 4runner) Ive decided that I will make a custom, one of a kind 4door Hilux.

First steps include,
Finding a junk hilux cab, complete with 2drs, and rear pillars, and the roof until the windshield.
Finding 2 peices of C-channel to jig it on.
Finding Another DD while I go through with this...

Essentially I want to take part of door B to make Door A.

I also want to take the pillar from the donor cab and make the rear half.

With the differences in wheelbase I think something like this will have to be implicated...

And to end it all, I have this kick butt flatbed design,

I'd buy a cab....:frown: (I know I'd love to have one to.)

Looks like to me the job would be HIGHLY complicated, structurally deficient and unless you like a rear door that looks like the front...with a pretty little triangle filler in the top right, I wouldn't attempt it.

I would if it was a 90-95 4Runner though. It's only a matter of time before someone's gonna cut the back off and make their metal look good.

My buddy Bud of Budbuilt did buy the back half of a double-cab from OZ a few years ago, but he never did the project, he had too much work to do. It's been done, but the hard part is squaring off the front of the doors, then gettng the glass, hinges, etc to all work right. You're better buying a new cab.

I know it's not a first gen truck but I LOVE my '87 Custom Cab. I'll never sell it because it works great for my wife and I and the two dogs. I know of an '86 turbo one for sale... found it Sunday while I was out cruising around. It's kind of beat though.

I saw a 2nd Gen 4runner that had a same model pickup rear cab section grafted right behid the rear seat. Then the rest was used for a bed. Kind of like the Avalanche or Honda Ridgeline. Turned out pretty good.

I havent seen one done that clean. It might change my plans :)

Although, the more I explore the idea of doing this, more comes into my plan...

While im doing this I will save up and put 4 racing style seats, all with 5pnt harnesses in it. Also making a spot to hold a baby seat inbetween the two rear seats, as this will take place of my daily driver. On top of that it will have a full roll cage.

Thats gonna take a while, atleast to fit everything into it wiht my budget...

Or I could go the invincible DD route and put in some portals, 37's and a 4bt cummings...
I like the later idea much better, but that will take some time.

One thing I have learned is that if you really want to do something, and really put your mind to it you can accomplish just about anything. Building a custom hilux cab will be tough and time consuming, but if its what you want to do, do it. Just keep in mind that its a lot of work and will prolly put your truck out of commission for 4 months or so if your diligent and a decent fabricator.

Bud and I talked a lot about this back in the day. I actually worked with JD in OZ to get a cab shipped as well. Bud ordered one in pieces, so to speak, cut, I believe, behind the firewall. JD found me an entire cab in excellent condition.

Sent him a check and he went right to the yard to buy it.... Someone had put a couple of holes in the cab w/ a forklift while removing the box. :( :( :(

I was going to do something slightly different and install it on my xcab frame with the 4.3 and use 4 SR5 buckets with a full length console... Thought it would be awesome, but it just never happened.

Lame. 1KZ-TE baby!

MUCH cooler than a rattly old cummins.

Either way, I vote that you should get a cab from Australia (or Chile/Argentina--they have LHD trucks there) and put it on your US frame. Mostly because I am hoping to do the same someday. Added bonus: you can get the factory interior to go with it.

If i were to import a body, i would go the extra mile and import a turbo diesel while im at it :flipoff2:

Im planning on going to Nashville Auto Deisel or Wyotech come March, and I think this would be a good project, if my pocket book allows :(.
Im defiently diggin the idea of it, along with the portals, and SOME sort of deisel... But that will be for a future, a long long away.

Thanks for the input guys! I really have alot to decide...
