So my Grandfather was a Marine Corp medic sitting off shore when Truman dropped the bombs. He was part of the occupation force and brought a Japanese officer sword and this home.
I held this rifle for the first time last night. Uncle had it in attic in Arkansas.
I am guessing it's a Type 38 (in service from 1906-1945) That would make it a 6.5x50mm Arisaka caliber. Odd thing is most on the internet are a 99 series and this one has zero Japanese markings?

There are a million Arisaka variations. Arisaka should be Japanese for "confusing rifle". Heres what I use when I pick one up occasionally:

Think I found my answer Carcano Arisaka Type I ...actually made when Japan was at War with China prior to WWII. This was an italian manufactured rifle.

I picked up 250 Bald Cypress seedlings today to try to reclaim the damage the Beavers are doing to the Scout Pond that Julie and I bought next door.
I'm waiting to see if I can increase the body count tonight. The two bloated carcasses from a few weeks ago are out there

They usually quit scouts right about the time they get their beaver badge. I know I did.
