I love my XDS in .45 it is small and has little to no kick. To me feels like a compact 1911. I love 1911s so a kimber pro carry is very nice.

Fountainhead hit it with the AR. Learn to use the iron sights so if you need them you have them..don't rely on optics

My wife likes to shoot my XDS 45. She says the recoil is not bad. Of course, this is after shooting .357 magnum. YMMV.

I'm waiting on the last part I need to assemble my Rock River Arms 5.56. I'm no expert but got a lot of guidance from knowledgable folks and the RRA came highly recommended. I'll be into it for about $850 when I'm done.

.......Colt LE 6920 hands down....... Wait until one of the big online shops put them on sale (which is happening more and more frequently now) and buy all you can afford.
As of Wednesday night, Flowood Wal-Mart had at least one of these in the case, and SEVERAL other iterations (Bushmaster, etc.). It appears AR's are once again available in ample supply.......

I have got to go ahead and buy an AR! Don't need one but want one. They won't let us take the ones from work home:-(

I'm sure others on here can say whether any of these are worth it or not, but on at least one of the ones I saw in WM the other night, the first number of the price was a 6

I know this will stir the pot for all the gun freaks.. here goes:

What version of the AR15 would you buy...less than $1,300 , 5.56 chambered. Brand/Model and why?

What version of a semi-auto pistol chambered for 357 sig or 40 or 45.. less than $1,000. Brand / Model and why?

Tactical use...not looking for high end stuff... reliable, serviceable, on the ar15..must function like current mil-spec M16 and take standard 30 round 5.56 magazine. Not looking for the godzilla 308 or 50 cal pistol or anything outside the listed dollar constraints. I do like sig pistols, and I have a sig P228 and a bushmaster older model AR15 ...nothing special on it.

I'd buy a Daniel Defense and a glock. My daniel defense is the finest AR i've messed with without getting into the Noveske/Larue/KAC price range. That being said, I have been extremely happy with my Bravo Company AR and would certainly own an LMT at that price point. But I just ordered another Daniel Defense upper. They make great stuff.

Pistol wise, i'm kind of a glock guy. I prefer the gen 4 triggers and modular grips to those of the gen 3's. I'm a big enough guy where size isn't a factor in carrying, so I'd probably go with the new long slide .45 practical/tactical offering, the Glock 41, I believe it is.

I agree with what has been said about .357 sig. It's expensive, hard to find, and hard to reload. I never have been a fan of .40's, for whatever reason. That being said, it was the easiest ammo to find during this last ammo crunch.

Re: Pistola

Another vote for the Kimber Ultra Carry 2. Very nice, compact .45. BUT, it's heavy, and therefore not comfortable or convenient to carry in most situations Which kind of defeats the purpose of the size...

I'd love to have a 9mm Kimber Solo to carry everyday--even though they look somewhat feminine aesthetically (to me).

I'm former GI_Joe.. I agree...the iron sights are good..relatively speaking. While I don't keep up with all the technology, I believe they make some tactical "red dot" or other type tactical dot optic that allows the use of the iron sight in conjunction with the optic sight.

I have an older bushmaster AR15....(dates back into the assault ban days), it has a HD short 16 inch barrel, but no flash suppressor, no bayonet lug or whatever its called , and it has the old style rear sight, but does have the round hand guard. Its a nice weapon as far as function and its accurate on iron sights and reasonable range... I bought it new back then (late 90's time frame) when I thought AR15's were about to go away. Is has the forward assit button/lever thing which I've never really caught on to. Model XM15-E28

I'll probably sell it / trade it at some point, as I want a few of the additional features on the AR15 frame as mentioned.

Check that for me. I'd buy one just to say I had it for $700

held and looked at few. the mag release button is very hard to push. Has to do with a goofy linkage mechanism. Too many horrible stories about reliability issues with the Kimber Solo. Nice looking gun, but can't get past the reliability issues. Much better off with a Sig 938 or Kahr PM9/CM9 IMHO.

Kimber makes some of the most beautiful pistols out there, but we will never purchase one. Just can't get past buying a gun made in NY where they have very strict laws against gun ownership AND where the warranty on a new gun is only 1 year.

Plenty of better quality guns from manufactures that offer lifetime warranty to the original owner. Some makers offer lifetime warranty on the gun. Doesn't matter if you the first or 20th owner. STI happens to be one of them and are made in the GREAT state of TEXAS.

I wouldn't trade an STI for two Kimbers.

I hate the fact that they are made in New York also.

It is my understanding that the issues with the solo were fixed in later models, but I am far from an expert on them, or firearms in general for that matter. Thankfully I've got friends and family (and internet buddies!) who know their stuff.
