Congrats Nolan. I have been waiting on these pics. Nice buck!

Thanks man. It's not the same deer I missed. It's a bit smaller but I'm super happy with it. I knew this deer was in the area and if either came out I would be ready.

I know this will stir the pot for all the gun freaks.. here goes:

What version of the AR15 would you buy...less than $1,300 , 5.56 chambered. Brand/Model and why?

What version of a semi-auto pistol chambered for 357 sig or 40 or 45.. less than $1,000. Brand / Model and why?

Tactical use...not looking for high end stuff... reliable, serviceable, on the ar15..must function like current mil-spec M16 and take standard 30 round 5.56 magazine. Not looking for the godzilla 308 or 50 cal pistol or anything outside the listed dollar constraints. I do like sig pistols, and I have a sig P228 and a bushmaster older model AR15 ...nothing special on it.

depends on what you hunt...

thread is about hunting and shooting

And you need that for hunting why it one takes one shot!

Who the hell cares what he wants it for?

I would think you could get a nice used AR for around $1000 now that the frenzy is over.

I would get a .40 due to ammo availability. .357 Sig is a bitch to find

.45 is easy to find but it kicks like a mule. I am not a .45 nut swinger. I think a 9 mm or .40 is all you would ever need

Buddy of mine bought a Rock River AR 5.56 last week for $1050 new. Solid gun.

If you're going to be shooting a lot 9mm is the easiest ammo to come by. And lots of good pistol options there.

You're gonna open up a can of worms here, but I'll play.

AR - based on what I interpret your requirements to be, Colt LE 6920 hands down...simple, basic, reliable, solid, proven. If your not looking for a platform to trick out with every f'ing AR option known to man and just want a badass no frills rifle, then this is the goto gun. Wait until one of the big online shops put them on sale (which is happening more and more frequently now) and buy all you can afford.

Pistol - I agree with Nolen on the 357 Sig...that's a fantastic round, but not very practical in terms of availability. I am, however, a big fan of .45 ACP. In full frame (perhaps not as tactical as you're looking for) they do not kick at all. You can literally shoot a Glock 21 all damn day. 9mm is a lot better these days than it used to be. There are a lot of hot 9mm rounds you can shoot and a lot of tactical platforms to shoot it from. I've said it before in this thread and I'll say it again...one can never go wrong with a Sig P226 (any flavor) in 9mm. It's full frame too, but, like the 6920, it'll never let you down.

Yeah full/large frame semi-auto pistol... I've got a 9mm now...just looking to add another in larger caliber. Most likely will stay with sig brand. I tend to agree that the 45 is maybe too much. I've read a lot of good stuff on the .357 sig.

not looking for all the tricked out ar15 guns...not in the budget. Want a flash suppressor, potentially be able to mount a tactical dot type optic, take standard 30 round magazine, round hand guards... 5.56.

I tend to buy guns and keep them forever so ....quality..within the budget counts. I know everyone or some guys will debate this or that round into the ground... Looking for specific brand and model recommendations.

Thanks...

I'll take a 45 any day over a 40. 45 is very easy shooing even in a small pistol. 1911 is the pistol of my choice. You can get a Windham Weaponry MPC 5.56 from Cabelas for around 750 on sale. Windham was founded by the person who started up Bushmaster. He sold out and ended up buying back his old factory and hired many of the his former employees. Good quality and not too expensive.

for around 1K I'd get a STI Trojan in an .45ACP.

I love my XDS in .45 it is small and has little to no kick. To me feels like a compact 1911. I love 1911s so a kimber pro carry is very nice.

Fountainhead hit it with the AR. Learn to use the iron sights so if you need them you have them..don't rely on optics

George speaks the truth…..Sig P226, & if you gotta have .357 Sig, drop that barrel in & use the same mags. I got a 226 Elite with Sig light on the rail, love it. I do love my .45 ACP, too……2 Kimbers, 1 Colt, & a Ruger SR 1911, they don't kick just got a lot of bark.
