Is anyone using an external gps antenna? If so, have you had good luck. What brand antenna? Bluetooth or wired? How do you charge the tablet with the antenna plugged in. I am currently using Back Country Navigator Pro and an Galaxy Tab and want to be able to get a better signal while out in remote areas like Big Bend or up in Colorado. Thanks in advance.

David you find any solution on the external GPS setup?

I've looked at the external units but have always shied away because of map compatibility issues (on apple products anyway). I hear BCN works much better with them.

Not yet. Haven't had time to really delve into it. I'll probably just buy one on Amazon and see how well it works.

I know a few of you have mounted TV's outside under cover on your back porches. You guys use any special type of TV or just make sure they are up and out of the weather. We got some new furniture for the bonus room and now are discussing a new TV for up there. The old one is still good and I could put it in any other room, but was thinking about mounting it out on the porch. Thoughts? It's a plasma and we can get down well below freezing up here so not sure if that's a good idea. Gonna do some reading on the internets, but thought I might check here for thoughts as well.

Thanks

I would grab a low cost Walmart $200 TV and treat it as disposable. No need to waste a good tv outdoors. Lighting is all wrong for great pic anyway.

Anybody have experience with dash cameras? Thinking about giving them a try in our trucks at work but need simple and reliable. No frills. Anybody?

I've never used them, but these guys do a good job with their reviews and tell you what they looked at and what they like/didn't like about every product and why they are recommending the model that they are. Hope this helps.

Andy and PMC shamed me into putting my BaoFeng antennae on before the next trip.

The antennae has a magnet base and a pigtail that screws into where the rubber antennae goes.

Reception is improved but portability is killed as is picking it up to use. I have a second one in case I have to use it out of the car.

So I hard wired and mounted it. I ran the wire in the passenger door by the C pillar. The weatherstrip is nice and thick there so I won't get wind noise.

I used a quick grip to hold it in place. It cost me a hole in the dash but it's an 18 year old lady vehicle so meh.

Handset is ordered.
