Condenser fan last year was 2002 with the redesign of the ducting and from my recent test they did a great job...
Well, ya learn something new everyday. Just checked my '00 and '04, and sure enough, no fan on the '04. I know you're asking about '06-'07, but now I gotta log the differences between these two on the same day here in town. Today woulda been a good one. :crybaby:

LandCruiserPhil: EDIT: I misread the first post, completely did not see the part about you purchasing/dropping in the fan. I'm still interested in how much it cost you to retrofit it...

Do you recommend it/have any idea how much it would cost in parts to retrofit one? It looks like you just need the fan bracket + fan + nuts, I was wondering what that bolt hole was for... (almost used it to mount a PA speaker)

Thanks for your help

Note: additional scan gauge cables are available on ebay for <$5 shipped

Yes, but my son gets a little touchy when I run off with his "accurate speedo".

In my experiments this weekend, (~90* outside) our 2000 & 2006 were nearly identical low-mid 180s at speed, creeping up to low 190s in stop and go traffic.

I have to wonder if you're just seeing an actual issue or just manufacturing tolerances in the sensor, as LostAfrican suggests.

Thanks for your testing input.

The overall temps dont concern me as much as how fast the temps ramp up compared to our 99 given the exact same conditions.

I wonder if that isn't a function being induced by newer emissions equipment. I know all of the newer engines are forced to heat up from cold on startup much quicker for emissions and this could be a function of that design element?

I'm leaning toward t-stat as well. If she's not opening up all the way that could explain both the absolute delta and the ramp rate. How close are you to a 90k interval? Getting into the 210's seems a little too warm for comfort.

2006 here mountain back roads driving elevation around 7-9k saw a max temp of 198.

Is condenser fan only for LX, or both LX and LC? I just looked at my new 98 LC, it does not have this fan. Reason I ask is because I am planning a long trip from KY to FL soon. I may have to install this fan asap since I am sure it will be hot and humid down south.

Thanks
Chris

My 2000 is a Land Cruiser, and has the fan.

1998 here, no fan.

I've been watching my 2006 LC closely since this thread popped up.

it's constantly 95-100* here this time of year.

If I'm driving at any speed, operating temps are 188-195, all good.

Idling in traffic, in a drive through, etc, have seen them get up to 215 on a hot day. Today it's 98 outside, and when I pulled out of the drive through at lunch I was at 215*. 1/4 mile down the road I was back in normal range at 193*.

An update -
I installed a condenser fan out of a 99 LC. The testing of the fan came a few weeks ago sitting in line to cross the border for 3 hours. The outside temps were not to a 100° but close and never went over 202°.
When pulling the boat out of the lake the temps still ramp up much faster than my 99 did. I still need to replace the t-stat thinking from my testing its not opening all the way. The wife has had the LX in Mexico all month but will be back at the end of the month and I will change the t-stat then.

It's likely that if you don't have rear air, then you won't have the condenser fan for 1998-2002 models.

There was a TSB for relay/connector corrosion where they changed the design of the relay and introduced a "wrap" that goes around the relay and the connector junction. Mine was corroded so I just replaced the relay and the fan which had seized up from most likely not running for many years.

The relay from Toyota is about $50. OE fan assemblies can be found for about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of OEM. You're looking at about $100-125 for the system assuming you have the connector on your wiring harness.

I checked this morning on my 07 LX

Ambient: 68deg

I'd estimate 3 minutes of driving and my temp hit 190deg (reported on Torque Pro)
Average on a 35m trip: (estimated) 186deg
High: 194deg

I thought my Aux condenser fan was only going to be needed setting at the border but recently at 113° and setting it was a well received add on.

Setting on the phone at 113° I notice my AC getting warmer and warmer. Finally is not even blow close to cold. Check the water temp and it not hot. Turn on the aux fan and in less than 10 minutes its ice cold again. I cant believe Mr T deleted this fan in 2003 and newer.

With enough interest I can put together a kit with the needed additional brackets and such to add on a 2003 and newer.

Is the wiring harness still in place to add the fan plug-and-play or does it require additional wiring and switch gear?

I take it you have an in-cab switch? Can you take a picture of your setup?

Idling in the sun the other day at 5:45 PM at 113 deg for about 20 min, for the first time ever my AC got warm and kicked down on my 2000 WITH the aux fan. :hhmm: Time to do some investigating...
