i can look up what i used in the past ...
will post when i find it. probably sunday.

Relay has been ordered. I'll post up results and pics when I get it installed. Thanks for the help, I'm looking forward to doing away with the toggle switch!!

Today I installed the relay and I am happy to report success!! The relay works exactly as described. Before I hooked up the fuse box to the relay I double checked everything with the volt meter and all is well. I hooked up the fuse block and again tested everything. Just as I hoped everything now turns on with the key on the ACC!

While I had the dash tore apart I also hard wired a radar detector in for the wife and installed new speakers. The speakers were a bit of a challenge to get to. I think in these smaller 70's series they must be the first thing they put into the dash on the assembly line. What a PITA!!! But, the speakers I replaced them with fit great! I used Rockford Fosgate Prime R14X2. I'll make a seperate post about them in a bit. Here are a few pics of the speakers, I did not get any more pics of the rest of the wiring today.

That is way cool!

Thanks.

You could replace that manual switch with a 24v relay. The switching current is 24v, the switched current is 12v.
I did the relay but I went with the smaller converter since several would fit and cost less than the Pyle:

chose not to keep the converter powered full time and just tapped off one battery to get the 12v for the memory function. I also found that I could leave the lighters/power outlets 24v since I was using this converter:

And after checking I discovered that my Norcold didn't care either. So keeping the 24v means less complexity and lower losses with converters. I do have the downside of a slight mismatch on draw between the two batteries. I'll probably need to add another converter when the Ham radio goes in to meet the demand if it can't run on 24v.

Tapping off one battery NOT recommended
Better to tap off isolated feed
Might not be a huge concern on DD but if vehicle is parked for few days problems can stride
Do it right

While I had the dash tore apart I also hard wired a radar detector

How fast is she planning on going with the 3B?!

I'm preparing to do all this too, except for the radar detector ;) (also after getting a 70 series from Steve at LCD). How did you settle on the Pioneer? Trying to pick from the dizzying number of available stereos is driving me nuts?

Thanks and nice 70!

Thanks for the compliment! She has a BJ71 and the 13B-T, but it's still not too fast. The rig will cruise down the highway at 80 mph (yes MPH!), with ease but I'm trying to get her (and myself) to slow down. The radar detector is more of a comfort and a carry over from her previous vehicle (2007 Rav4) that would easily get both of us in trouble.

The pioneer is also a carry over from the Rav4. We originally chose the Pioneer because I am familiar with the brand, it had the BT and Ipod control. Also, we have the SiriusXm Sat radio hooked to it that we both really enjoy. She really likes the BT hands free phone and being able to connect her phone to the radio for her audio books. This model had enough bells and whistles, but was not too complicated that she would have a hard time running it. It just so happened that I kept the OE headunit from the Rav4 and this was an easy swap over. The double din radio fits in the dash perfectly and looks great!

Didn't realize it was a 13b-t (nice 71!). Peppy little engine but still don't think you'll be breaking any land speed records :)

What RPMs are you running cruising at 80mph? I'd be nervous pushing mine to those speeds, especially without a pyrometer.

Thanks for the info on the stereo. What model is it?

Timely thread for me. Finally wiring up my converter properly this weekend. Has anyone used the "radio memory module"? Worth it?

The stereo is a Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS. We bought it a few years ago so I'm sure there is an updated model by now. As far as the cruising at 80 mph we really don't do that much at all so I have no idea of the RPM's. Generally we just try to keep up with traffic. Here we are at about 3100 RPM's or so on the highway.

pyro is a great suggestion
i even recommend them with NA diesels ...
cheaper than a new head.

Radar Detector?
In my 70 Series, this is the only speed zone I am concerned with. :)

i also have a factory 24V radio cassette combo i recieved off 1978HJ75 as a gift.
