Contemplating Inner fender replacement

Where exactly are the rust prone areas (hard for me to to visualize from the photos), and are they reachable with a spray tip/nozzle/gun with the outer fender attached, like from the holes on the engine bay sides??

rhyary: saw that photo, hard to tell where the rust actually started, about in the center looking in the wheel well??

Look at your fender upper right on the passenger.

From the inside it is where the front foot of the air filter canister. It is made of two pieces.

Also, in post 7 you can see the rubber apron hanging. So you can compare that to your fender

On my new fender I sealed the gap between the two pieces with Por15 and Second skin as you can see in the picture

The photo above shows it well, thanks. Road salt is the work of the devil.

Holy rust belt, Batman, this is feeding my OCD!

I've been waiting to start a thread asking whether anyone had done an off body resto of an 80 series.

I've seen threads about painting but none of those that I recall included removing fenders to paint them off body or treating the inner shell. I just had my windshield replaced; If it weren't for that, I'd like to POR 15 the whole vehicle, piece by piece. 24 hours for one fender is pretty daunting, though.

Dumb question: if you remove inner fenders do you risk damaging the truck by driving. I am thinking about removing and having powdercoated and it takes a week.

There are so many things bolted to the inner fender that I don't think it is realistic to drive while they are off.

I've an even dumber question.

What's the benefit to PC, and are you redoing the inner fender goo? (goo, waning the line xish coating)

Don't know I am kind of on powdercoat kick right now. I have done my wheels, spare tire carrier, tow hooks and some bolts. My cruiser spent the first 13 years in Wisconsin, so there is some rust. No tellin what might get coated next

I'm about to get into this. I got new front inner fenders from cruiser parts waiting in my garage. Thought before I got started I'd see what your thoughts are a couple years after the fact. Was it worth it? Did it hold up?

It was a lot of work but worth it.

If you could have installed the inner fender along with the outer fender on the driver's side, would you have? I have a full set for that side that I want to get on before winter and I am wondering if it would be easier to just install the whole thing at once rather than split them?

They are currently together because that is the way @slow95z sent them to me and I think I recall him saying it was easier to remove them that way but I don't know about putting them back on.

Man, I have rust in exactly the same spot on both inner fenders. It looks very labor intensive to replace but it's something my OCD can't live with. I really appreciate your post! IH8MUD is tha sh*t (:

Glad this post helps you.
It is a labor of love. Otherwise, just get a new truck.

Anyone know the answer to this?
