you boys in BC wanted to just sit back and hope it all would go away... this is what apathy does...

Whatever...I don't own an LJ and I'm not trying to sell one either. 99% sure that my BJ74 complies...so I ain't gonna lose any sleep over it.

I started this thread to document what I will be doing to comply with regulations, both by what I've researched, and with what the inspector will discuss with me. I also wanted to know if anyone has ad the same experience being contacted like this, to see what they had done.

Instead this thread turned out like all the others

But you enjoy looking at them, don't you, Stone?? ;)

Mot :)

I can learn to appreciate any Land Cruiser, although I will naturally like some better than others. ;) :D

But...we'd best not digress too much more lest we be further chastised by Canadam for ruining a perfectly good thread. :D

best be checking ALL the regulations before posting up half truths. there is enough misinformation floating around.

What are you referring to as 'half truths'? I'm not sure that I understand what you mean.
Regarding BC, experience has taught me that both vehicle safety regulations and enforcement here are tougher than Alberta, and for good reason: (Topography). If someone thinks that BC JDM 'cruiser owners are apathetic, its probably because ICBC and the Province can be a daunting foe that could stand in the way of us being able to drive and enjoy our import of choice. Simply put, fighting city hall is easier said than done. and peace, man.

They should give you a sticker or decal of some sort that you can stick on your back window/tailgate showing that you've been checked out and are satisfactory/compliant/legit.

Isn't that what a License Plate is for?

Not in BC. One can have the sticker placed on after a VI, drive out the shop and around a corner, and be pulled over for another VI. Of course common sense dictates most constables would heed the freshly completed VI, however in the eyes of the law they are allowed to issue a new VI as you could have done some serious mods since the last one. There is also the question of who looks for what in inspection facilitites, even though they all work out of the same book.

LP and correct date sticker simply means it is registered and has insurance.

Ya...I know...

Hi Wayne,

Where did you get this information and how are they determining who does and doesn't conform? Are you saying that the vehicles that fail an OOP inspection are getting these letters?

Thanks,

Wes

any uinits that do not conform to DOT/SAE standards are getting a letter sent to them in BC nd in Alberta. it is the responsibility of the OWNER to make sure the truck complies.
as i stated in another thread there have been skylines and fairladys and townaces already removed from the highways in Alberta do to failure to comply...

I just hope that Wayne's proposed tail light kit will work and be a reasonable price.. It would sure help get the DOT / SAE Tail lights that most LJ78 owners need in order to comply..

Canadam let us know if the 4 runner high break light works. If it dose that would give us 2 options.

George - Would it be possible for you to post a couple of pic's showing your 3rd brake light install?? Would sure be helpfull to a lot of us out here. From the sound of your email I think thats the way I'll probably go.. Too bad you didn't get the year of that Nissan..

Thanks Guys
Richard

Well here it is Saturday..
I took my glasses and away I went to Canadian tire..
If found the SAE / DOT reflectors. wooohooo..
Bought them and put them on my LJ 78.. I also bought a couple of extras (red ones) and suck em on the rear bumper..
SOoooo that part of my list is done.. The next thing I'm going to look for is a high break light like George put on his truck.. (Just wish I had a picture of the thing I'm looking for)
George If you can't get a picture is there a Nissan part number on that thing..??

Thanks all.

Richard

Hey guys, as far as the 3rd highmount brake light issue goes. I already found mistakes in the BC lesgislation. Presented it to my local CVSE guy, and it is going to be removed.

Cheers,
Nick

Hey Guys just to let you know that my truck was in the shop the other day in Lloydmister and a Alberta inspector was in the shop talking to all the mech. about the influx of JDM's they are doing inspections on and low and behold my BJ74 was there and of course he checked out the windows and the tail lights for DOT markings and he said that it was O.K.. Of course I found this a little funny since I have not changed over the headlights from RHD. So everbody be aware that the word is out on checking out all of our treasures. One good thing that the mechanic told me is that the emphasis is on the cars like the fairladies and skylines for noncompliances. Another great feature of the landcruisers is that generally we are not going to be pulled over for speeding and then have to go through the spanish inquisition about our unconventional rides. :) Peace out brothers
