Guys:

I would like to keep all of you aware of the two amazing projects that we have been working on lately. First there is the Paper Cruiser. I am sure you have heard of it. Now Jesse and I made a special edition Landcruising Adventure Paper Cruiser.

cbw_20120505_Suriname_P0498.jpg

If you want to read up on how we got to this all, you will enjoy a quick read-up I wrote on our new website. And you will find out, we are giving away 10 of them.

02-giveaway-700x467.jpg

A great way to spend the holidays cutting and gluing your own expedition rig together. I you don't get yours for free, we have made them available in our shop as well for a modest price. You can even set your own price for it.

Tell me what you think of it!

I'll keep the second project for a next update, as I yet have to write a post on it.

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

Happy to be back again in Brazil!

So, where did I leave you guys hanging?

Right we were just about to enter Brazil from Guyana. Marvelous region, to bad it wasn't that dry otherwise we could have tourd more in the savannah where large indian communities still find peace and tranquility in the vastness.

Stacked bananas on a truck.

When we are in Boa Vista, we are invited by Ricardo an avid 4x4 doctor and his wife. A great couple and we have a fun few days together.

Then we find out that our pre filter is dead. Completely rusted and gone. Ricardo then decides to take his Donaldson filter of his Big Toyota 4Runner and donates it to us.

Moooooooreee:

I am aloud to change the oils and check the levels of the gearboxes in Elmer Jeep's workshop. I soon find out why he is called Elmer Jeep! - Removing the fender for easy access!

309181_10151046641828543_1310942789_n.jpg

Ones you start investigating you will find all kinds of little things that need improvement. But a crack in the rubber hose on the air intake isn't easy to solve. There are no real alternatives to be found and I improvise with RescueTape!

417411_10151040196703543_1413651307_n.jpg

To our disguste we find a little hole in the air filter's oil bath. Hurray, how did that get there? We have it welded with copper, but after testing it with a liter of water, I find out it is really badly done.

427329_10151031529468543_1156052469_n.jpg

So Elmer Jeep, comes to the rescue with some 2 component metal clue thus fixing the hole in our air filter oil bath.

285445_10151059595668543_731750458_n.jpg

This is why Elmer got his name, he likes to fabricate Jeeps with enormous tires! Elmer Jeep's latest creation: Crocodillo.

Awesome as usual. We homeschool our kids and my wife was teaching them about S America a few weeks back. I used your thread for a few examples with them. Keep the great adventure going.

In the meantime we have selected some awesome images from our time in Laos and Vietnam and put them together in a oversized wall calendar. It's our second in the Legendary Roads series. This one is called:

Legendary Roads: Ho Chi Minh Trail

Follow us as we get lost trying to find our way from south to north where few have gone before. Humidity, rutted tracks, isolation and a lot of smiles make this one of our most memorable trips.

We will start the infamous BR319 with a fresh set of tires! How do you like them apples?

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

As always this is still my favorite thread ! hope youre enjoying your most recent travels

We get on with the "real" stuff, I mean what this adventure is made for:

423615_10151082671608543_751691591_n.jpg

800km of mostly unmaintained asphalt from the 70's mixed with some deep gullies and fallen trees. What do you bring?

387410_10151080208173543_228311374_n.jpg

The wheelbarrow still is the most versatile piece of gardening tool, where do you put it to use?

403263_10151083921013543_664462819_n.jpg

We love the trees in the Amazon rainforest. But they shouldn't be lying across the road! How do you deal with this?

538929_10151070096623543_1960231559_n.jpg

Coen, working hard on the BR319 the "main highway" between Manaus and Porto Velho. Some tree is blocking the road.

46506_10151087642558543_144848122_n.jpg

Just to remind you where we are, this is the BR319, the main highway between Manaus and Porto Velho!

183303_10151085213663543_522034705_n.jpg

A careful inspection of each rickety bridge on the BR319 is in order. Who do you trust to guide you over these?

more soon. And... of course we love to hear your comments [hint]!
Adventurous greetings,
Coen

Speaking of bridges... this one is completely gone! Build a ramp and floor it? What's your advice?

545339_10151095324763543_1234719540_n.jpg

Scary?! Crashing through the dust at high speed and coming straight for you. What are the options?

228156_10151088808373543_311548568_n.jpg

And another fine example of painting with tar. After hours of this, our love for dirt road grow by the minute!
