Oh yeah, in this photography posting, you must spot the Land Cruiser! ;-) Tell me where it is hidden...

In the 2nd pic with Karin Marijke and in the 3rd behind the cabin.

Never mind finding the BJ45, #7 photo is so good it could win a photographic competition.

whoa you foxes... :-)

For you guys that like Land Cruisers and especially Land Cruising Adventures, I have come up with yet another t-shirt design. You can find the "I love Land Cruising Adventure" t-shirts in our CafePress shop.

I suspect this has only a little to do with the fact that she is on stilts... I note that the blokes look much more interested than some of the other spectators:hhmm:

Stange looking fruits and vegetables in the market.

They call those "pejibaye" here in Costa Rica. Typically you cook them in water until done, then peel and eat. They usually have them with mayonnaise. It's kinda like an unsweet sweet potato... but that probably wouldn't be doing them justice - they are quite distinct and delicious. You can crack open the seed and chew the white part inside too... tastes like coconut. The pejibaye tree is the same palm where "heart of palm" comes from... just when it is younger. If you haven't already, you should try some ;)

Okay, something completely different. If anybody can help me out with a Fairey Overdrive problem please do! Check these images:

The very rare Fairey 6337 Overdrive. Here you see the culprit. A leaking [we cleaned it] oil seal around the shifter shaft. It is a very small seal, and I worry not getting a local replacement. So we decide to get some more info on the specs of this seal before we get it out. Any ideas? Pleas get in touch.

The very rare Fairey 6337 Overdrive. So the locking ring was destroyed and I set about making a new one from a piece of sheet metal, but the guys decided a tack weld would hold for some time to come until I can get replacement parts. Again, if you have the info, do let me know!

@Surinamemotors, paramaribo, Suriname:
The very rare Fairey 6337 Overdrive. I didn't know which kind of overdrive was fitted on the gearbox. A sticker on the car of "Superwinch" always led me to believe that this was a Superwinch Overdrive. But seeying the 6337 on the cover somehow convinced me that it is a Fairey 6337, can someone comment on this.

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

Our '72 FJ40 had a Superwinch sticker, but it refered to the hubs, not the over drive. Did the welder protect the bearing race from getting slag in it while he was welding it?

Do they have the B series diesel Cruisers there? Maybe it would be worth fitting an H55 speed gear box in there now before you work your way up to North America where they don't have that gear box.

Good luck,

Josh

@Josh: My sticker says this:
20110626-mgrycjdmyu3u5849ih3ihx3xnp.jpg

So I'm confused by that. And yes we protected the bearing race with a wet cloth. Close inspection afterwards confirmed no points visible on the balls.

Somebody else mentioned the H55 gearbox. How a straightforward swap would that be? Any ideas?

Have a look here: Fairey Overdrive by Rovers Down South

Not the 6337, but possibly share a common seal? Send them an email here: mail@roversdownsouth.com possibly they know the seal part number?

Goed Geluk! :steer:

Thanks, I did sent them an email yesterday!
Adventurous greetings,
Coen

the H55 is a direct bolt up to the engine
the shifter is 3" further to the rear (in most cases)
the driveshafts will need to be modified.
you MIGHT need to rework the tranny mount if yours mounts to the tranny, if mounted to the bell housing then no need to modify. contrary to popular belief 5 speeds do not "break the bell housing" when mounted with just the 4 bolts to the bell housing. old wives tale.

<if someone did break one off i want to hear the full TRUE story of the event in question.>

not sure the O/D ratio of the fairey unit

thanks so very much

wow! Karin-Marijke and Coen, you are living a slice of life that is so unique, just putting yourselves out there (and in your LC) a day at a time. inspirational to say the least!! wonderful thread, thx for all your efforts to include the dreamers out here ....

I agree completely. I had a 5 speed in a 1980 with no cross member for several years with no problem. We sold the rig to a dentist in Santa Fe whose son is still driving it almost 10 years later with no problems. However theirs has the cross member, so should not be an issue.

Coen, if you can get a transmission from a BJ42, then the shifter will exit through the same hole as your current 4 speed does. If you get one from a BJ60, then you will have to cut a hole 3" futher aft. Otherwise it should bolt right in with a few drive shaft mods.

I've never seen a Superwinch overdrive - crazy Brits:grinpimp: Good luck, I hope it all sorts itself out quickly.

Cheers,

Josh
