Ok so I became a member because obtaining a 4Runner was getting ridiculous in San Diego.

Long story short. I just popped up on a list I put my name on for a brand new 2017 4Runner TRD Pro. Can get it at MSRP.

I gave up and that's what lead me to seek a 200.

These TRD pros are selling for 5-10 k over MSRP in SD. Used too!

What do you think? You all have been great as far as direction for a 200.

Although with the small # of TRD pros being mad and sold I have to put a deposit down ASAP or someone else will get it.

It just hit the port so in country

So what's the question, plow through w/ TRD Pro or go to 200? If you're cash paying, sounds like getting the TRD 4Runner that you're on the list for, and turn around and sell it for 5k - 10k over MSRP, and THEN buy yourself a <2014 200 series and you'll make out like a champ down the line.

I do think w/ the way overlanding is booming the 4Runner and Taco will continue to see massive sales and high resale values, IMO these are the two most popular trucks for the avg Joe overlander. That said, though, more and more eyes on the 200s, across all forums and boards. More attainable. Once more folks get into 200s, like the rest who've just beat them to it, they'll realize for the money the 200 sits on a different shelf than the 4Runner or Taco. Demand already outweighs supply for the 200s, and its only going to get worse.

Whatever you do, don't drive a LC200 if you want to get a 4Runner. Most likely than not, you'll get a preowned LC after test driving both.

I think the title of your thread should be "Complete 180"

:bang:

So if the title was really just a Freudian slip, his decision is already made (4Runner). However, after reading these posts he'll end up driving a 200 and THEN his decision will be made. So which is it? Anyone feel like we're in the wine scene from Princess Bride?

Don't forget what TRD has become...

:hmm:

Yes I agree. Just typed it up fast! Haha
How about 720!
Pirouette work? Look I just got the call and scrambling. Of course I know the LC is superior in every way and want one. The issue was finding one in so cal. Which is hard. The TRD Pro is impossible unless I pay LC price for it.

My vernacular my not be right. But My head is spinning.

Just asking advice! Not comparing 4r to LC ever.

Buy the 4R. Search for a LC in the meantime, find one, sell the 4R for profit. Enjoy the LC.

I agree. My thought is to get it and see if it lands me closer to the apex. But I'm not a practiced flipper! Or even thought of that. As I said I came to the LC because it's superior but this just popped up!

Try and sell your spot in line vs buy and flip.

I test drove one of the first TRD Pro's in our area when they first came out. The dealership literally didn't know what it was when it arrived. I could have bought it for a few thousand under sticker. [In hindsight I should have- just to resell it!]
I was totally underwhelmed by it's on-road performance and overall robustness (is that a word?) Maybe its because I arrived at the dealership in a very well optioned BMW X5 that felt so rock solid at speed. I drove a 200, sold the X5 and then bought said 200... I'm hooked.

All great info! I got the call and have have it if I say so but today or it goes to the next guy who WANTS it but not a LC.

People don't even think of the LC if looking at the 4R. The put blinders on. The same way people who want an LC never look at anything else.

The key is blinders! This is a New car. With full warranty etc. people aren't going to spend 80k on a new 200 unless they can.

Plus this is a limited color production and the real possibility that the 4R gets dumped or revamped with the new Taco 3.5 and 6 speed. Guys are trading those back to get the 2015's. They don't like the new tacos.

For those recommending flipping the 4Runner for a profit, keep sales tax in mind. If the guy is paying 8% (guessing more in CA), that's going to be close to $4k alone, and that doesn't count all the other ridiculous dealer fees or registration cost which is likely another $1k or more. That doesn't leave much room for profit.

If you want underpowered, overpriced, mediocre build quality, get the 4Runner.

Save yourself the aggravation and test drive both the 4Runner and 200. There is a comparison between the two but there's a vast difference. The 4Runner is half the cost and half the vehicle.
I've driven both. There is a reason I donated $100 to become a gold member here.

Sorry my delorean was in the shop and couldn't McFly it to today and this situation.

Agree but how many are in CA now for sale. There is only 1 red one within 50 miles. And all the others have miles and 2015/2016.

Plus I called around and every dealer told me the one they have is already allocated. Called the dealership on every one that is posted in the limited cement color.
