I think the new 4runners are a good design and nice looking vehicle. If they put a V8 in it it would be a great vehicle. My wifes old 2006 runner was one of the few V8s. The V6 was a dog was why we bought the V8

Totally agree with this ... even if it's an small V8 ..

While I haven't had a 200 (yet), I've had an 80 and a 100. To me there is more to it then just those 2 things. The build quality (at least in materials), sound insulation, tech, and refinement are not present in the TRD Pro. You cant get a sunroof, or even leather. The tech is way behind. There is no radar cruise, BSM, lane departure, etc. No auto-climate control. Its very utilitarian. Some like that fact, some do not. If i want utilitarian I'll find a perfect triple locked 80 to spend my money on, because that's what the TRD Pro reminds me of the most, just not as capable. And I think you can have a great looking 200 with just lift and tires. The stock terra grapplers on the Pro never did it for me anyhow. But that's all just opinion anyways:)

She was mean looking though...

I agree for the most part. There is definitely a solidity to a 200 that cannot be found in a 4Runner.

In terms of tech, however, the 200 is/was very late to the game. I have a 2015 that I bought new.

It doesn't have: blind spot monitors, lane departure warning. It has a pretty crude ACC system (I've used ACC on a number of different vehicles from Lexus to Honda as a comparison.). It has a DVD player that doesn't play bluray, and the system is nearly impossible to operate from the front seats if you don't have the remote (since it's for children it should be very easy to control from the infotainment screen.) The info screen between the gauges can only scroll in one direction which is ridiculous. Tire pressure monitoring doesn't tell you which tire is which, also not very helpful. You have to get to the climate screen to adjust the climate, and it's cumbersome. No LED lights inside the truck. The packaging is not great-driver seat feels like it's way up in the air and there is little-to-no interior storage. Nowhere to even put a smart phone.

I'm not complaining, despite how it may sound-I bought the truck with eyes wide open, and I truly love it. Most of the things I listed above I don't really care about, but they are worth noting at the price point.

I'm a guy who gets new cars every year or two, and the 200 is not on the chopping block. But I'm just pointing out that it's not exactly an $80k example of rolling state of the art technology. :)

At the end of the day, there is only 1 Land Cruiser. 4Runners-even Trd Pros-are a dime a dozen. Nothing really "special" about them regardless of badging. They're great trucks, just not in the rarified air of a LC.

Just depends on what you value more I think, and where you are financially.
