John's Canyon, Sunday; we plan to start our trek from Mexican Hat:

Main trail - blue, 15 miles;
Upper - purple - 3.7 miles going northeast, left side of the creek; green is right side, doesn't seem to go very far.
Extension, going back above the San Juan - red(dish?), 13 miles, may not exist as such as it is right by the cliff, or may be very narrow?

If it works out, and weather permitting, Claudia and myself will try to drive the extended part as far as possible, and camp there.

Hmm, haven't been through John's canyon before, sounds interesting.

On John's Canyon, the blue and green are the trail. At some point (likely about where the green ends?) there is a wilderness study area, road closed. At about the point where the pink joins the green is a cool little waterfall, depending on conditions, maybe dry? The pink trail, going westish on the far side of the canyon, is blocked by a huge rock slide, is only passable by narrow vehicles.

May want to reconsider, this is me in the Blazer, and not some cool expedition-rated Landcruiser-approved safari.

I like to follow wide loads :D

I enjoyed it, great views into Goose Neck Canyon, etc, just not technically challenging. Nether is Moki Dugway, Valley of the Gods, Muley Point, etc, but, IMHO all are worth driving.

Are you driving straight through again?

Yep, leaving Thursday or Friday morning to meet glen on Sunday for a week in the maze, hoping to meet you guys in blending in saturday night. If someone has a AZ cruisers shirt to trade for a Gotham city shirt I'm in !

Looks like Lorna & I will be running Hole in the Rock with Drew & his dad.

If things go as planned we will be arriving at the Hail Crossing side of the Hole in the rock trail the afternoon of Tuesday 24th, once Jim and Lorna join us Tuesday or Wednesday, we will make our way down the trail as far as our tailors will lets and setup base camp, from there we will explore the area until Saturday and meet everyone in Blanding.

I wish I was goin this year, but I only have one week off this year and its not in May. I'll be going somewhere in the world, while the kids are being watched at the sister in law's in Florida in August. I'll be watching the thread, you guys always have a good time and take great pictures. Not to mention im saving up for a huge service that my cruiser needs and will be done by Camelback Toyota, upper and lower pan arch seal and rear main seal leaks. So im not exactly prepared. Take lots of pics, especially a shot of Kevin's awesome 70's era button up shirts and $12 Costco shoes!! (Man, I miss my pa!!)

... $12 Costco shoes!! ...

Got a new pair for the trip (they are $14 now, you get what you pay for, so better?). I looked at another brand, couldn't do it, knew you would be devastated if I changed brands.:flipoff2:

What the hell are you thinking? You know they're going to come home pink.:princess:

Here is the itinerary as I have it. It’s in pencil and bound to change.

Saturday 4/28: Drive to Blanding with stops in Valley of the Gods and Mulley Point overlook.
Sunday 4/29: John’s Canyon, Natural Bridges, Trail of the Ancients, and return to Blanding.
Monday 4/30: Arch Canyon, Comb Ridge, travel to Monticello.
Tuesday 5/1: Elephant Hill then return to Monticello
Wednesday – Saturday: Moab for wildcat runs.
Sunday 5/6: Return to Phoenix

The scheduled looks a lot like last years except for John’s Canyon, Natural Bridges, Trail of the Ancients, right?

How early of a departure on Saturday?

In the same areas, but the only repeat from last year would be part of Elephant Hill. I have never run the whole trail, so that is why it was suggested. These are only suggestions, other ideas are welcome, trail selection is likely to change.

9AM from Carefree HWY?

we can't make it that early, for sure - Michael is only getting in late the nigh before . . .

right now, plan is to get to Marble Canyon Saturday

Kodachrome Sunday

Bullfrog Monday

it's just the last plan in many before that :meh: last minute changes would not be unheard of

It is getting warmer on the forecast. I will post up later this week.

Looks like three vehicles from ABQ will be heading up to Comb wash and Butler wash on Sat, 4/28/12 and camp at the Comb Ridge campground sat night If Arch Canyon trail is open, will run it on Sunday and camp at the end. On Monday, will come out of Arch Canyon and head into Cottonwood wash where we're hoping to tool around in Beef Basin and Dark Horse canyon. Camp somewhere in Beef Basin and then come out through E-Hill. After than, we'll enter Lockhart Canyon and tool around in there for a day or two before coming out through Hoorah Pass into Moab.

We may do Golden Spike thurs and camp in the middle before coming out through Gold Bar trail into Moab Friday. We're hoping to check out the Friday nigh shin dig in Moab and check out the raffle before heading home on Sat.

Everything is subject to change depending on the weather, mood, beer, fuel, etc.

We'll be on 146.460 and will be monitoring the Sinbad repeater system if you guys wanna contact me.
