I have permission to attend... maybe this will motivate me to replace a stretch of brakeline that's been waiting patiently on the shelf for a looooooong time.

Do we need to bring any food or anything?

I second the request for what supplies we need to bring...I also plan, if I dont get to it sooner, to replace the front pinion seal...its leaking profusely.

So, what I KNOW I need is:
1 - axle rebuild kit from Kurt
1 - extra inner axle seal
1 - pinion seal
1 - FJ80 FSM
Alot - Papertowels
Alot -

15w75 Gear lube (if I drain and replace my transfer case and rear diff while Im at it, plus the front rebuild, how much do I need to bring?

I don't know what the capacities are on an 80, Look in your manual and add 10% or so for spillage.

What about grease? Do I need to bring grease and if so, how much and what kind?

At least two tubes .

Is someone bringing rubber gloves or do I need those as well.


I want to make sure I have everything I need, so please post up anything else I/we need to bring.

I have oil drail pans and all the tools, though an extra air ratchet and another set of jack stands would be good. O'reilly's is open until 8 PM and we usually end up senting some one in for the stuff we forgot.

Also bringing 2 sets of jack stands, 5 gallon pail and pump of 90W, 3/8" impact and sockets, my trail tools, my laptop and 1980 FSM,

Anybody got a fish scale? or a cell broadband card? not sure if it'll work at the shop, but might prove useful if we need to look something up

Roger, do you have a spare pinion nut washer laying around? The one I got from Toy of Dallas is actually a spacer and not splined My old one is pretty worn out. If not I'll call bob tomorrow and have him bring a couple down.

I have a fish scale and Bob has calibrated hands, the broad band card will work up by the road, not sure at the shop. I am sure I have a pinion washer, the stock ones don't have splines.

So you all wanted the rubber gloves to keep your hands clean, never though of that, I just use Go-Jo when the job is done.

hmm, then maybe I do have the right ones...the one I took off had splines that indexed to the pinion flange splines.

Was thinking that I might bring up my half doors and weld those up, or if someone that shows up can weld sheet metal then they can have a go at it...any volunteers?

I can bring my 1/2" impact with metric and SAE impact sockets and my air ratchet.

I also have the e-version of the '91 FJ80 FSM (my 80 is the '92) on my laptop...although I have printed out the section on the front axle.

Had small jack stands, but backed into one with my 6000lb white elephant last weekend and smashed it.

Also have a floor jack if we need one more...

How long does it take to adjust valves on a 3Fe? My list is getting longer...

Axle rebuild, front pinion seal replacement and valve adjustment, as time allows. I might have to bring a tent!!!

I need to check/adjust mine as well...It took me an hour & 1/2 or so on the 2F, but I was going slow and it was my first time to do it.

Was thinking that I might bring up my half doors and weld those up, or if someone shows up that has never welded sheet metal before in their life, then they can have a go at it...any volunteers?

One item we will probably need is another creeper, I only have one good one. Based on past experience with work days, it would be better if the people that work in the shop use my tools. By the end of the day they will all be mixed together and sorting gets difficult. Air tools and any special tools for your vehicle will be fine.

HOLY MOO COW! looks like a minor weekend adjustment has turned into a major manufacturing facility.
should i rent a lighted road sign from we-b-signs like you see at flea markets?
maybe it should read, "ROGERS CRUIZER CRUX" weekend repairs made here, mechanic on duty, work for beer, we accept tips, no job too big, no muff too tuff and finally, will work for new or used cruiser parts.

Depends on how fast you drive. It is 80 miles from the I-24/75 split to my exit on I-24( exit 105) and then about 4 miles to the shop.

It was 3 weeks after the last club work weekend before Corky's cruiser left the shop. We had to wait for parts from the left coast.

Just got back from Nashville tonight. I hit my trip when I left Red Bank and it's 75 miles to the Manchester Wally World. Took me 1hr10min and that was pulling a 3500 lb boat up Monteagle mtn. The 2F was groaning all the way up the hill but it made it. Sorry couldn't stop for a Roger, had to meet a guy in Nashville coming from Wisconsin. It was a quick & dirty trip. See ya soon.

I've got a mig welder, need to get the gas bottle refilled, Rob used the last of the gas putting the 6.2L diesel in his FJ-62 last week end. He still has to complete rerouting a few lines and adapting the cables but it now looks like the truck was designed for that engine.
