Now on our own we try to score a Yellow Post camp. We start at Keller Peak Rd. which has 10 yellow post sites. but by the time we got to post 9 near the top we saw a dusting of snow on the trees!

So we continue onto Fawnskin and up past Hanna Flats Campground and over here it is warm with blue skies.

We spent the next two hours searching for the elusive yellow post sites. We ended up finding 3 more; 34 off of 3N08, 7 & 6 off of 3N14 and all were taken! So we found a nice dead end around from Y.P. #6 and Ironwood group camp and made camp and just did without the camp fire.

The next morning we packed up headed back up 3N14 to Big Pine Flats C.G. used the facilities and washed up. We decided the day was young and we wanted to continue up 3N14 and loop back to Holcomb Valley on 3N17.

We found Coxey Meadow, a great trail to hike off of 3N14 just before 4N16.

A little ways up 4N16 we went to check out Horse Pegs camp for future reference. The place was completely empty even on a Holiday weekend.

Once on 3N17 we came up to a fork and it had a 3N17 sign but no arrow. So we assumed the left for would take us to N Peak so we stayed Right. Then about 50 feet down the road we hit another fork and no markers. We started on the left fork and it got serious pretty quick so we turned back and tried the right fork. This one got really tight and very soft so we walked it a ways and found it was blocked by a stump from a flood and overgrown bushes. So it was back to the serious trail and we were rolling solo.

3N17 does offer some spectacular views but we were happy to finally hit 3N92 just past White Mtn & South Peak to head back into Big Pine C.G.

Thanks for sharing. I ran the easy section road on Saturday afternoon. It was a perfect day to be out there. Didn't get to the trail head till around 12 noon. I ended up following some modified jeeps on a more difficult sections towards the end of the trail. It felt good putting the wheels back on dirt. We finished the day down by Silverwood Lake, over some carne asada and grilled veggies. I hear the lake water temps heat up pretty nicely during the summer months. I gotta go back again, it is a very nice part of so cal.

Thanks Kimo, it was nice to see another mud member on the trail that day. Your rig is not to shabby either.

Dude, I was the one that ran into you on your way up ... that's a sweet ride

I did about half of the trail today I think. I turned around a little while after one of the ledges twisted up my exhaust tip and I had to cut off the last foot. It was fun

How long hav ya' been out here with the move from the East Coast? If you had not wheeld out here before, how do you like the difference? For me, I like wheeling out here way better.

I've been out here for a week now and from what I've seen so far I think I'll enjoy the trails out here more than the few I saw in VA. I do miss cheaper gas prices though
