Since I have the wood, think I'll build this one just to start somewhere. Come back later on with some experience and build one like we want and need. What do you guys think

I started with a Dave Gore (4plusproducts@gmail.com) 4plus dual swing out bumper/tire carrier. I removed the basket from the right side (for sale for $50- plus shipping --> pm me) and attached an under mount truck box from Tractor Supply, which I adapted with shelves, top rim, led light and lift-up side shelf (designed for rolling tool boxes). You can see the drawer unit I built, which has 35 gallons water underneath, with 12 pump - for water on demand...

Really nice. By coincidence I did the same thing on my rear swing out. I built a 3 can carrier that I can unbolt and utilize a box very similar to yours. Well thought out! J

That's a good approach.

Nothing wrong with wood... Just requires more maintenance if it's carried or used outdoors. Easy to model in wood too.

Best way to go is whichever way you want to go.

Here is a my basic set up for hunting which is all carried in and on my trailer. The box is from KANZ and are huge money! I was able to get mine at dealer cost so the sting only went on for a few days. But the are light weight and really great. The tables are stainless and the stove is a Cook Partner which rocks.

The problem with most wood chuck boxes is people want to use 1/2" plywood. By using skin and bones construction you can get a box that is more than strong enough at 1/4 the weight.
Here is a crappy quality video that gives the basics.

Yep i seen that, and will try to incorporate some of that into mine Thanks

I've had my eye on these kits....I like the way the enclosure forms a stand for it.

The camp kitchen chuck box.

I'd like to try my hand at a custom box, but time and skill to make it look good are in short supply.

Yeah, the BSK stuff is nice...this is one of my long time wish list projects...slowly engineering and gathering...stick and skin construction is the way to go, but I am still looking into honeycomb laminates for rigidity and weight...pricey, tho, if you want to use ready-made laminate panels...

That's what I started out doing. I packed every thing in apple boxes. Never got past that stage since the apple boxes work so well.

Three boxes hold all of our gear and most of the dry food stuff we need for a long weekend camping trip. They pack into the back of the Cruiser nice and flat with plenty of room on top to stack other stuff. The boxes hold up for at least one or two seasons and are free to replace.
4 years later we are still using apple boxes.

I actually like the size. I'd like to rig a way to use the tops for tables in camp.

Just found these

I liked the size of apple boxes so much I built 3 that are identical in size in 1/4" ply. They are perfect for weight and
packing and lifting size. And I can stand on mine - which I couldn't do with cardboard. Simple and effective, I've had them
since I made them in 1989.

funny thing is the first set is cheaper for me due to shipping...now I'm bummed I peeled the clips off of one of my chests, I think I still have em somewhere...Great Find, Rusty!!!

hA! I'm gunna hafta buy some of those....too cool...

Lambcrusher,

If you don't have the hold down clamps anymore, it still works. The legs slip over the box lip and hold pretty tight.

too cool for school...

I'm choking on the price of the legs + shipping. Now that I know they exist and what they look like I will hit the Surplus store. I might find a set in the outside yard where the cheap stuff is.

let us know what you dig up
