I will start lobbying for an early departure from North Portal. Can everyone make it there by 8AM so we can depart at 8:15AM for Walatowa?

I was thinking 8 was a good start time too. and chance of snow is bonus! nothing feels more like christmas than cutting a tree in the snow!

my only tough thing is figuring out how to fit the new dog in the 40 with the whole family. maybe time for an 80 soon.

8am it is.

Sounds good.

Shawn....the dog can ride with Raj and Me if you want. I assume once we get up into the MTNS we'll let them out to trail run anyway.

I was keeping that in mind...but wanted the opportunity to poke at the 80's crowd.:hillbilly:

Sounds good to me.

Technically, you'd probably be just fine driving your BFT and have plenty of room considering the typical level of wheeling for a tree run. Then you'd only endure a little harrassment for bringing a Ford on a Land Cruiser run.

Seems like there might be some weather coming up this weekend.

Come prepared folks. Chains, warm clothes, some provisions, recovery gear etc. I *will not* allow rigs to stay on the mountain!.

;)

We all know how forecasts are a week out. Examples for Albuquerque this Friday/Saturday:

Weather.com:
Fri- 40% chance of snow.
Sat- Rain/show showers, 42*/23*, 40% chance rain.

Weather.gov:
Fri - During the day a 10% chance of snow showers. Friday night a 50% chance of snow.
Sat - 30% chance of rain showers. 45*/24*.

Of course the Jemez will be different. I'll give it a few days. By the time the weekend gets here the storm will be predicted to hit on Tuesday. Or, it will fizzle into nothing.

...or be like the one a few years back where people had to abandon rigs and s*** like that...id rather be prepared than not when going into the Mtns.

No argument. I'll be packing a lot more than you suggest.

I'm in at the portal...The smurf's first tree run:crybaby:

I will be the most unprepaired person there :D.

I have no chains, no jack, open diffs, a ham radio I have no idea how to use (dads old icom HT), not even a spare tire .

But there is no way I am missing this trip. 8am is early but I can do it (I work till 3am).

Wow, this sounds like a disaster already

...and like any good G.I. Joe, knowing is half the battle! You'll be in very caring and capable hands;). I am out, this work thing is getting in the way of fun time!

ask someone about the 'Land Rover' story.

if you are willing to admit that and willing to take help/advice if needed, you'll be fine. spare tire is pretty important, but we should be able to get you out in the worst case scenario...even if that's on a Sunday vehicle retrieval. :D

Be careful with this little sleep. In 10 years you will be physically unable to function without a minimum of 8 hours every single day. Lack of sleep takes a toll according to Rudy.

:D

j/k Rudy.

I realize you will never be ready to move up to the most capable off-road vehicle available to the general public but there is an unlocked black 93-94 in my area with a sign saying $2,900 or best offer. Paint looks like a cheap respray but body looks straight and rust free. Cloth interior (fairly rare) looked to be in good shape. 3rd row seats. No running boards so it has factory front mud flaps (also kinda rare.)

Probably needs axle rebuild, head gasket, phh.

If I had an extra $2500 sitting around I would make him an offer.

Buy Onur a beer and he will do this stuff on a Sunday afternoon for a reasonable price. Dan has a few used head gaskets laying around but I recommend buying a new one. :D PHH is $2. All Cruisers need axles serviced.
