800$ should have got you all the prep and paint. I had them do my 60 with a crushed quarter panel which I had fixed. I was really surprised at the repair for the cost All metal no bondo and the metal work was great. They did it for 1000$ including all prep. That also included taking about 6 other dents and dings. 3-400$ if all they are doing is spraying it. For a trail vehicle their paint jobs are fine, much better than what most people can do themselves. If you do the prep nice like Ewheeler said it actually come out half decent. I wouldn't use them if you wanted a less than 5 foot paint job though.

I'm gonna be diggin my heels in on this paint thing. I've gotta figure this out for long term and just being stubborn. If it come out crappy, then... It's a crappy paint job on a trail rig. Won't be the first and won't be the last.

I GOT IT! I GOT IT! I GOT IT!:bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:
So I found this dude that had did a write up on the SAME gun that Im using and how he went about adjusting the thing. Turns out, I had my pressure set WAAAAAY too low and it wasnt atomizing the paint adequately, so it was clumping together and causing the big ass orange peel that I posted earlier. Yesterday (while I was waiting for my crap to dry) I occupied my time by adjusting the settings the way he did. Today, I prepped the trans tunnel, bib, and aprons FULLY! Did the soap/ water, dry, then the wax and grease remover, dry. Then hit em with the etch primer, cleaned the gun, and then sprayed the top coat. WORLD OF DIFFERENCE! I still suck! However, Im happy with it. Its TONS better than the lil fender skirts I did. Good enough for the paint mangling horrors this rig is gonna see!:grinpimp:

Congrats! That is going to look awesome.

Thanks gents. It looks lighter in the pics, where it seems to be a bit darker in person. I am soooooo relieved I got this figured out.
Still have to do the hood, windshield fenders and tailgate before I move on the the tub. Hoping I can get the tub ready this weekend, bit I'm still waiting for my gauge panel. Apparently there is a lil trimming that needs to happen with the 3 3/8 in gauge panel. I'll also need to put one gauge in the dash as it won't fit in the panel. So there is some work I need to do on that.
I'll be so relieved once the paint is done!!!!

HVLP Spray Gun Setup

Here ya go.
Having worked with this thing a little bit, ive found that its a bit inconsistent of a sprayer in that the flow of paint will vary. This occurs even after a thorough cleaning. It could be the pressure as well as this thing EATS air. Got a nice run on one of the fenders yesterday because of this.
All i have left is the hood and windshield and the individual panels are DONE.
Contacted Brian at trail candy yesterday for the gauge panel. Once that comes in, I can fit that, seal the seams, prep the surface, move it into the booth, mask it off where needed and shoot.
Ill be glad when this paint thing if done!

Actually, now that the paint is down, I think an appropriate name for the rig (which is what I originally named it when I got it) would be the BRUISE.
