Frame's painted!!!

Frame painted pics...OOOOOOO, AAAAAAAH!
Used the rustoleum appliance paint. I really LOVE that stuff. Believe it or not, the paint is actually DRY in the pics. Already put a ding in it dropping the motor back in. Que sera!
Also popped for gauges. Went with the VDO series one gauges. That's a tough nut to crunch!:crybaby: OUCH!

That looks great. I think there might be a light at the end of the tunnel and I don't think it's a train this time...:flipoff2:

Congrats on getting the plumbing worked out.

Jack

Thanks gents!

Rusty...I went through about 6.5 cans.

Jack... Yeup! What I need now is time to do it. Also need a cheap and easy way make an impromptu paint booth in the shop to shoot the rest of the tub.

Michael, there's your proof :)

tacking up plastic ground sheets is simple and easy if you have wooden battens.

frame looks great chicago, i cant wait to see the finished product!

What I want to know: What are you going to do with all your spare time when its done? :flipoff2:

Seriously: Looking good Keith!

I have an old tanker desk that I want to paint so I've been reading up on DIY painting.
Hit up HF for some cheap tarps and 1X2's to build your booth. Get a box fan and find some HVAC filters that cover it then tape about four to the intake side, a couple of cheap ones for a pre filter then one of the expensive Filtrete kind. Use the fan to create a positive air pressure inside the booth that is relatively dust free. You can get filters for your dust mask that work when painting, I couldn't even smell the paint when I did my sliders.

Are you going to rattle can or get a sprayer?

I'm thinking about clear visqueen and framing it with PVC?!?! PVC is easy to cut and work with and pretty cheap.
Ideally, a telescopic pole that runs floor to ceiling would be easiest.
Since I have to do all the body parts separate, something easy up and easy down is a must.

Good idea on the box fan rusty.

Oh. And I'll be using a sprayer and summit single stage paint. Little nervous about it as I've never really done this crap before. :0

PVC is kind of floppy in longer lengths, that's why I suggested 1X2's.

Maybe a rectangular hoop suspended from the center that you could hang from a pulley attached to the ceiling? Duct tape the edges to the floor.

You probably already thought of this but you might look for some pointers in the Paint and Body Forum.

I would hang the painters plastic to control over spray and then spray the floor with the hose to keep the dust down, beats the hall out of fans.
You want more, lighter coats as opposed to a heavier single coat.

WHERE A RESPIRATOR health care professional.

Its more prep than the actual paint that goes into a quality job.

Lol...Roger on the respirator. Learned that lesson with de scaling the spring packs. :)
I get the prep part of the paint. I don't really care about a flawless paint job on this. Quite honestly, if it passes muster thatll be good for me. Point is, I don't plan on spending weeks prepping for a paint job that's gonna get scratched the first time I wheel. Already dinged my pretty frame. :0

Ordered my trailcandy gauge panel this am. I had been corresponding w/ Brian the owner and I've gotta say... Dude is great, and on top of communication. So far the customer service has been outstanding.
Can't wait to get/ see the panel!

Clean my garage, work on my now horribly neglected house, go back to the gym consistently.... Have a life back besides landcruisers.

Thanks for the props!

We used something called Third Hand for installing upper cabinets that fits the bill for what you want. There are several sizes, but the one I'm thinking of is highly extendable and made for floor to ceiling use. It's a tube and inner rod with a squeeze handle (think caulking gun) extender mechanism to extend the rod. Kind of like the old VW jack, if you know what they are.

One of the uses for these Third Hands is to hold up painters plastic.I'm going to try something I'm not very good at yet, and that is linking to another web site. This link is to an Amazon page that has some pics of the Third Hand, Including one pic of how they can be used to hold up long pcs of crown moulding for nailing.

Amazon.com: 3rd hand - Tools & Home Improvement

I hope this link works. If not, I just typed Third hand into the address bar and the first item listed was this link to Amazon.

Is there a Western Tool Supply around your area? I'm not sure if this is where my employer got them, but a good place to start looking.

Don

ps--I just tried the link. It worked, except the pic of the third hand and the crown moulding wasn't there. They are not cheap so that may create a problem.
