I have a circle plasma cutter made by www.swagoffroad.com. The thing works really well. Course, the other answer is to just use square tabs and fill the holes with a bit more weld

That is a GREAT idea! There is a new development down the street that I could probably ASSIST in their clean up. That might be idea for the dash holes, actually. Thanks for posting that up.

Hole saw would take to effing long to cut EACH ONE. I DID actually think about that, but the amount of time to cut each one out, itd be easier and faster to get a circle template and zap em out with the plasma cutter. OOOOOOR, find some pre done, which would be even better.
Stack a few pieces up and gang cut them. That would actually save time with the plasma too if you go that way.

Tail gate is skinned, but the destako latches WON'T WORK! !!!! They hit the gas can!:crybaby:

Faaaawwwk!

Maybe you can put latches on the inside, will give a nice and clean gate.:hhmm:

Check out a Caravan Camper shell door. They are constructed almost exactly the same as your gate and have a pretty good latch system. If you can't find someone who will let you look at theirs the factory is over on Dickerson road. They guys there are pretty cool, I'm sure they would show you one and sell you the latches if you like the system.

After being DENIED last noc on this issue, I came in and started WEB wrenching looking for options...I had thought of this. The hot rod guyz use a "concealed" spring bolt type set up. I was considering this route actually.

Is this like a twist handle kind of thing!? I was looking at some like this, but of course...Id very much like to find something LOCALLY so I wouldnt have to wait for parts. Thanks for the tip.

I think I got it figured!!! :bounce:
When I was building the blotch rig, I got two sets of t handle weld on spring pins that i never used. So this am before I left for work I decided to see if I could use em and I think they will be perfect.

Pics later when I can do it. I think it will work pretty slick. I'll have to make/ weld a tab for the pin to slot into that will also function as a back stop for the gate.

If I were you, and making my own gate from scratch, I'd go down to pick n pull and scavange a newer Toyota PU for the internal latch mechanism and hardware and an older one for the pressed Toyota logo.

That's a great idea!!!! However...the gate is already built and all I need are the latches at this point.

Since when has having something built stopped you from starting over?:flipoff2:

I'm warning you you start thinking like this and that truck will be on the road before I have grandchildren.

Looked at those latches you were talking about...wouldnt you know it, McMaster carr has em. 90 bucks.

Im gonna proceed with the t handle spring pins I have. Ive wasted a day already searching for a better option and havent really found anything better.
The up side is...I already HAVE all the stuff I need, so I wont be spending any more. Kind of a no brainer.
