Okay... My bad.
Peeping pics from around the hood of your neighbors wife then. :p

Got the DS fender skirt finished today and started working on the tail gate.
I LOVE a drop down tail gate. Great for setting the BBQ on, little work space or just a place to sit your ass down on when BSing with your buddies out on the trail. This was a MUST for me. Had to use some rugged trail hinges, and got some 700 lb. destako latches to keep it shut. I had planned on using some FJ40 rear ambi door hinges, but they hit the swing out.:crybaby: I was kinda bummed about that after I pissed a guy off here on mud when buying them.
So pics of the frame and the hinges installed. I used some plate steel to bolt into and provide some over all strength to the tail gate. Will obviously be skinning it with some sheet metal.

When do you think you'll be ready?

Still shooting for July/ August for start up and hopefully test run!

Well see.
Not much left in the tub to do before I pull it and start paint. Need to do the dash work, get and mount the trans cooler, mount the battery tray and build the rear body mounts and a little work on the steering column mount. There is however a s*** TON of sanding, bondo and such to do. Not gonna make it perfect, but...10 ft. paint job is all I need.:hillbilly:

Anyone know of a way to get sheet metal CIRCLES to fill in the dash holes??? Perhaps an easy way to do those?

Thinking of using a "circle" template and just running the plasma for that?

Love that tail gate. I might copy. Seriously, that is nice.

How are you going to do the latches?

What will hold it up? some sort of chain arrangement?

How is the cruiser going??:rolleyes::hillbilly:

Andy,
I got a set of doorman tail gate cables. I'll weld some tabs on and bolt those on, hopefully with some of the factory type bolts so the cables will rotate around when opening and closing and not hang up.
As for the latches, the upper plate steel in the frame will also be used for bolting one side of the latch. On the tub, I'll probably weld some nuts to the back side of the tub/ tub frame.
Thanks for the props on it.

Well in my previous employment we had a ironworker machine. that sucker could punch 1/2 plate chew up angle iron and also punch circles.

The question of the week would be is there one anywhere near you?

yea the plasma might be the best bet, cnc machine water jet cutters also a option

Yeah... Were talkin about 16-18 ga. Sheet. Just wondering if there was a sales market for half through 1 in. Circles for filling in holes.

Now that I say it that way... Kind of a stupid question. :o

Glad to see you got something done since you weren't out wheeling with us this weekend. :flipoff2:

BTW I'll trade you tail gates, I won't even ask for a few bucks in exchange because mine is store bought. :hillbilly:

Do you know an electrician? The knockouts from electrical boxes was the first thing that came to mind. I don't know what size the knockouts are or if they are even close. Some of the boxes are plated so they may not work, but there are painted ones also. Just a wild thought.

Don

That is a great thought there are 1/2, 3/4 & 1 inch knockouts. they do make a snap in plug as well. Most are steel but might work well.

Ever hear of a thing called a hole saw? I have a few different sizes, all you need to do is take the pilot drill out before you drill.

That is a GREAT idea! There is a new development down the street that I could probably ASSIST in their clean up. That might be idea for the dash holes, actually. Thanks for posting that up.

Hole saw would take to effing long to cut EACH ONE. I DID actually think about that, but the amount of time to cut each one out, itd be easier and faster to get a circle template and zap em out with the plasma cutter. OOOOOOR, find some pre done, which would be even better.

Latch looks nice, you could even make some sort of fold or slide out to get a proper size table.:hhmm:

Im thinking along the line of an in bed sleep space would be nice...
Gotta get the fawker built first, but that may be down the road.
