This Norcold looks like a older unit, like I have - it uses a special cord, and you can not use a universal power cord like Kurt uses. With the new units, you can leave both cords plugged in, and the freezer reads which cords has power - and switches ac/dc accordingly. The old units don't do this. The cords share a common ground, and you have to swap them out.
If I had to do it all over again - I would buy a new unit so I could keep both cords hanging out the back of my unit - that way I could plug a extention cord into the unit at night, or when the truck is parked for long periods in the garage. Now I have to climb in the truck - pull out the freezer, swap cords, and put the freezer back in.
