Ok so I decide to do this mod today and I go get the alarm from Radio Shack and come inside to drop some stuff off and go back out to install the alarm..........my f'ing lights are on:doh: I needed to do this more than anyone!!!!

might have you beat. I was doing the install. tested it on the fuse posts to make sure they we're the right fuses and while I went to put wire ends on the buzzer and two sided tape on it to mount up in the dash I left the lights on. it buzzed at me when I hooked it up. doh!! well it is simple. sorry crappy phone picture but you get the idea!

figured I should finally get this thing in. I left my lights on when I came home from work yesterday. luckily no dead battery as I caught it after about 30 minutes!!

went for a drive and every time I signalled, backed up or put my windows up I had a faint buzzing from my buzzer. not sure why but it was annoying. I moved my black wire in the above picture to the ignition fuse and buzzer still works if lights are on while the truck is off but no more weirdness.

Here's a buzzer that fits in that little punched hole below the fuse block on the FJ60.
The buzzer wires were extended and soldered to the appropriate fuse terminals on the back of the fuse block to keep everything tidy. A little electric tape [GLUE] around the edge of the buzzer ensured it fit tight and snug in that hole.

Thanks much for the headlight alarm tip Spike and Dynosoar!

Sooo very sad that Radio Shack is going away.

I used those exact ones off your post Outputshaft! Thanks
Bought them for less than $2 from RS!

i tried this today on my Aussie HJ60 using the two fuses that you pointed out but the buzzer buzzes when the head lights are on even when the car is running, the 7.5A fuse that you have used on my fuse panel says its for the starter...

The two fuses are the lights ( either L or R), and the gauge fuse.

Has anyone tried this mod, but just for leaving the keys in the ignition? I know it's boneheaded, but I left them in my BJ70 for the second time today, even after reminding myself not to leave them. It's really pissing me off.

Quoting for later use. I had the same issue but never ran across @franklin40 post until just now. Going to have to try the ignition fuse.

it seemed to work but after a while I was still noticing a buzzing so I took it out for now. might try the more complicated way using diods.

I just did this and found out that I was missing the left headlight fuse! I swapped it out for the A/C fuse since that's not working right now anyway, but how were my headlights working without the fuse?

Anyway, great mod, and much needed for a guy like me. I still haven't done it in the truck yet after about 20 years, but I leave my motorcycle headlights on and kill the battery ALL THE TIME. So it's just a question of when, not if, so better safe than sorry.

Reviving an old thread, but this is such a great little hack.
Can't wait to do it.
And talk about inflation - NOS Radio Shack buzzers are $12 or more on eBay these days.

The one I used was 75 db. 84 db can't be that much louder.

Dyno
Db increases exponentially. A 10db gain will be very obvious to your ears.

Why not just buy it from Radio Shack for $4.00? Too easy?
