Does anyone know if this will work on a 24V system?
I know my HJ60 has 12V lights but I believe all dash bulbs are 24V (replaced them all) so concerned that connecting to the 2 fuse locations will fry the buzzer and cause something worse (electrical fire/melt in fuse panel)--

Any thoughts?

Need to save my battery from my daughter. Just came from Radio Shack over lunch and shooting to install tonight. Thanks for starting this thread!

slckfj62--thanks for the idea--don't know why but sometimes I forget the 'simplest solutions'--maybe my age--not used to thinking 'internet search'--plus kind of hate the sifting process during a 'search' with so much other stuff popping up.
Great--I need this mod as 2x I've forgotten and left the lights on--so far no problems--but--need this to keep it that way.

I am not a purist but if someone did not want to add a buzzer there is a different solution. Two years ago I read on the 3FE Yahoo forums about a writeup which adds a diode (less than one dollar) inline with a wire located in the passenger kick panel. It sets off your stock buzzer when your lights are on. I did this mod and it worked great. I would have to find the writeup on the yahoo message boards though.

Spike Strip - Thanks a lot for posting this easy mod. I have a question - the buzzer doesn't sound with the parking lights on. When the head lights are on the buzzer, "sings" away. Great, easy, money saving mod. Thanks again.

Thank Dynosoar -- His invention. I light incense to him every time that buzzer goes off. Yes, only works with headlights on.

Price update....buzzer now costs $3.99 plus tax. Still a bargain. Just put it in and it works as advertised. Not even a one  job. Very easy. In my FJ62 the pictured 10 amp fuse is 15 amps.

It saved me today. I am glad this easy fix keeps people from dead batteries.

Excellent idea mate, I will be getting one of them from Jaycar is Aus

re: above post: You do not say what the green wire is for. Can you clarify? Seems like you ran the added red in the first pic to the other side kick panel area and spliced it to a green wire.

Say: Instead of cutting the red/white wire, I wonder if you can splice in the added wire from to a headlight low beam hot to the existing red/white thru a diode. This is called "wired or" in electronics terms. Then the dinger will chime when lights are left on OR key is left in ignition. I will try this and post a pic when I can.

......wow, you're right. I didn't say in my post.....and I really don't remember. It's easy to check though. Just measure the red/white wire on the passenger side and look if its grounded or 12V when the ignition is on with the seatbelt off. My guess is it get's grounded by the door switch.

im going to do this mod soon. i can get a piezo 84 db buzzer from my local type of radio shack. will that be too loud?

The one I used was 75 db. 84 db can't be that much louder.

Why not just add a relay so that the lights can only turn on when ignition is on?
So that it works like a modern car?
It will shut off with key.
