Pics of Vc4016 charcoal canister

Here re two pics of the installed CC. I used a piece of 1/2" fuel line and ran the bottom vent to the fender well right at the upper coil bracket. I used one zip tie to hole the canister to one side in the original brackets.

Appears to be much smaller diameter that the original, how did you secure it?

Via a single zip tie around the canister as well as one side of the original bracket, it just pulled it to one side and is holding it there against the bracket. There is not much need as I see it to really clamp it hard into place, just need to hold it secure. I have taken my old canister apart and will be cleaning it, replacing the charcoal and putting it back on eventually so this is a temporary fix. This unit was cheaper than the other canister and more important to me is that it vented out and could be directed away from the engine compartment. Just my 0.02!!

Hey 91-92 3FE owners - 1/4" gas line to 5/16"

Hey 91-92 3FE owners - how are you going from the 1/4" gas line to 5/16" fitting on the canister? Pep Boys nor O'Rilley's had proper fitting to step the gasline from 1/4 to 5/16....

Found a fitting to go from the 1/4" fuel line to the 5/16" inlet on the new canister. My smog check is due so we will see what happens. Fingers crossed! It's a California thing...

Is this for the 4016 canister? Where did you get the part?

Has anyone tried this on a 100 series?

Glad to know this has helped several folks. On the 100, I believe the canister is completely different. At least on my 2004, the canister is mounted above the spare tire. While there may be an alternative canister, I would not think this one would be the best option. Probably a larger one for the v8 and a similar shape to aid in mounting would be best.

I just installed the "BWD Fuel Vapor Canister" from Pep Boys. It cost $35.99. I had to remove the lower bracket and use a zip tie on the upper bracket. The lower bracket, when stretched to fit around the new, bigger canister, interferes with wires coming from the fuse block. It seems plenty tight with only one bracket and a zip tie.

the vc120 just arrived via fedez from Auto Zone. Cant wait to put it in later today. I am divided on drilling the hole in the bottom or not. I live at about 5500 elevation in southern Utah.

I have the VC120. I live at 5500 in the Denver area. I go into the mountains with full fuel on hot days and have not had any smells from under the hood. Thats going from 5500 to 10000 without any smells.

Wait to drill your hole, if you need to you can, but in my experience I havent. Maybe if I went from 5000 to sea level?

I have a little bit of smell from 6500' to 10000' but the trail was very steep and gas may of been sloshing into the breather hose. Non wheeling there is not smell. Have not drilled hole.

I didn't read the entire thread but can the canister be relocated? I would like to use that space for other stuff

Thanks for the advice.

Put in the vc120- no hole drilling a couple days ago.

No fuel smells and everything is well. ;)

Thanks Jeeper for starting this thread and all others with info. Just installed the pontiac canister (ebay for 50) and no problems with gas tank venting now properly. One word of CAUTION-- The lower braket was hitting/rubbing on the wirebundle from the fuse block. I removed the braket and all is good.

I have done this awhile ago and still no problems. Lots of off road time towing hill climbs it's good. I had some other issues that I have worked out that I thought were relayed but were not. This is a good fix. I would do again and recommend.
