hey guys, i searched but didnt find what i was looking for...

my 97 lx450 has lockers but they dont work cause the center diff lock won't engage when i put it in low range

so i read the cdl troubleshooting guide found somewhere here in the forums. i unplugged the connector of the l4 position switch and did the paperclip test. the ABS and center diff lights did turn on.

so i took out the switch/sensor and tested it for continuity : nada
i cleaned it, wd40'd it, worked it in and out : still nada

so now i went to the dealer to order a new one... they have absolutely NO IDEA what im talking about and they cant find the part !

so my question is : does anyone know what im looking after and has the part number ??? that would be very helpful in my quest to lock me diffs :grinpimp:

thanks

Mine worked intermittently when I first got the truck. I just added the center diff locking switch (wiring harness is already there) and can select transfer lock in high or low. Slee sells the part, and you can also substitute a flasher switch. 95-97 will require trimming a slot out on the molex of flasher switch though.

I am sure CDan or Beno at American Toyota can help

I remember seeing a thread where somone located a napa switch that can be substituted.. much lower cost that the factory switch..

akarilo : I know about the dash switch, but I'd rather have my truck working as it should be from the factory before modding it... i don't like knowing something is wrong and bypassing it, I'd rather fix it first

otamiway : i always put oem toyota parts on my cars, majority of the time the quality is better, gives me peace of mind

this is the part that im looking for its part number

Well good for you then.

For testing remove either identical switch from front or rear locker they are the same.

Okay now I don't get it...

As you read in the initial post, I did paperclip test and it worked (ABS and Center diff lights came on)
So I bought NAPA NS6421 (replacement for 84222-12010), tested for continuity : check.

I installed it on the transfer case, plugged back the connector, started the truck, put in neutral, switch to low range : nada... ? no lights on dash, no center diff

So I said to myself the hell with that, I'll try the hazard switch on the cdl connector.
So took my console apart, found the cdl connector, took my hazard switch out, turns out it doesnt fit the cdl plug ?????

pic for reference :

black connector is for hazards, white connector is the cdl connector

there is a tab on the cdl connector that's impeding the hazards switch from sliding in it (circled in red)
i've red multiple articles concerning this easy mod, and nobody mentions this incompatibility, whats wrong ?

EDIT : nevermind I found where they mention the connector needs to be trimmed

so anyways, I looked at the cdl connector and the ending female plug where it's attached to, and found out the ending plug has a wire shorting two pins on the cdl harness, so I even tried to jump/unjump those two pins with a paperclip with the truck running and switching in and out of low range

no damn center diff light

what else can I check ?

Okay, I trimmed the connector and hooked it up to my hazards switch, it worked !
Engaged the lockers, they work !

But now the center diff won't disengage ?!?!?!
I pressed the button a million times, unplugged it, replugged it, turned the truck on/off, my center diff is stuck to "engaged"

arghhh and now I need to go to work !

I had the same problem of the cdl actuator not disengaging last week to find out the 30 amp diff fuse went out, no problem since.

So checked the 30amp diff fuse and its good...
CDL and ABS lights wont come off...

When i press the cdl button, i hear a very little whirring noise coming from the shifter area (i belive maybe its the actuator?) And i hear a relay click in the dash...

But if I drive, its still locked

Could my tcase actuator be stuck ?
