What sucked was that the rear door was frozen shut, so I had to fill it up through the front door and over the front seat.:hillbilly:

haha no way that fuel up pic is hilarious. Sorry to hear about the paper issues but its an amazing story of events that you can tell for years if that helps?

Yeah and kick myself in the head every time I tell it:hillbilly:

Well the wagon is all tucked in and ready to go under the knife again. Turbo time. picked up this freshly rebuilt D50 turbo from BD Diesel during Christmas, cost me 600. I tried calling a bunch of junkyards but to no luck so I went this more expensive route, Oh well. I got the exhaust manifold off and drained the tank a few times to manage to get a bit more of the paper through the system. I am fairly confident I got most of it out and can deal with it now if it does plug up a little in the future.

Call me before you come in, because I will most likely be sleeping (I have a late hockey game which will lead to drinking late into night). Yes I have all parts, however, I am just going to bolt up main parts, I want to get all the hoses and extras duplicated so that I can slap the turbo back on Blue. If I don't do it now, I can see years of Blue dismantled in my front yard.

Had a productive weekend. got the turbo exhaust work all welded up and ready for install after I chopped out the old exhaust. The stupid down pipe worked out pretty good, but if I had started on the manifold on the truck and not just in my shop I wouldn't have put the pyro probe in the way, cause it could have been a lot simpler. oh well I guess the next truck I turbo will be perfect.:hillbilly:

Then I was in a big fabricating mood, so I went to town on my front bumper. it's starting to look pretty good. I was going for the 40 look:hillbilly:

NOT.

It is actually turning out better than I thought. Still a bit to do and I think I will put a bit of a bushgaurd on it too. Fess up all that fell for my 40 bumper and thought it was stupid looking!:hillbilly:

So that d50 turbo on the 42 has worked out really well then, i.e. not too small? Not enough room to fit on the stock manifold flipped with that steering pump in the way? What are you doing for oil feed and drain lines? Feeling motivated to work on mine.

Yeah it works awsome. got lots of grunt right off the line which is what I like for wheeling, it does max out a little highway driving, but I wheel my truck more than I drive it and it is still a hell of a lot better than non-turbo. I will probably go for a turbo more suited for the 3B with intercooler on my next project, as it's really easy to make up a manifold and go from there. I really like it too because it is so small and doesn't take up too much room, and it is really light compared to the CT-26 or whatever number that most guys run on their 3B's.

As for oil lines, I just go to the local hose shop and get them to make me up a custom braided high pressure line and then just a 3/4 in drain hose, which I drain into the oil pan (note this engine was turboed before so it already has a mickey moused drain which seems to be leaking slightly that I will fix up with a little JB weld:hillbilly: [don't worry dan I know you didn't do it ;) ])

Just follow the thread I did on my 42 as it is a little more indepth.

Cheers,
Deny

For Martin.

Here are the few things I picked up today at the local hose shop and the exhaust parts from canadian tire. spent around 200. So entire kit with rebuilt turbo will be around 800 to 900 bucks. not too shabby.

What local shop? The hose place just down from your shop? They weren't too bad to deal with when I was getting some stuff done for O.

Yup hose headquarters.

Thanks. Forgot the name. Had Hoser House in my mind.

Thanks Deny. The oil feed line is something I need to sort out. Thought about keeping the stainless hardline that the turbo came with off the mazda. Not building or buying a manifold, more along the lines of what you have in the 42. I was considering either low mount the turbo just below the manifold, or a manifold flip with elbow adaptor to the turbo :hillbilly:. Either one has some pros and cons. I considered maybe draining to the side cover rather than the oil pan if I go flipped manifold, see how it looks when I pull the cover off. I was also looking at those steel reducers at cdn tire, I'll need something like that because the necks on the turbo are only about 1.75". Don't really want the truck immobile a long time so trying to get the plan together before I tear into it.

What turbo is that martin?

Jim, its an IHI RHB5 off a 2.2L mazda mx6 or ford probe. It's on the small side for a 2.2 gasser turbo but probably not smaller than the D50 turbo Deny's running. Never seen anybody try the mazda turbo on a 3B but there's always a first.

Nother decent weekend on the 60. Since the turbo pretty much came with nothing, I had to build a few things for it, like this oil drain hose hook up. Chopped up an existing attachment, got some metal and went to town with drill, welder and grinder!

I even had to scrounge for bolts. I grabbed some of my old bolts from when I first "restored" blue and went to all ss body bolts. Had to cut down the old hood bolts to make it fit. Still waiting on my 9MX1.25 die so I can make some exhaust studs too. Then I started on the turbo to manifold intake pipe.
