Guys Status update... it's a whopper.
First and foremost some of you may have noticed that I haven't been in the forum in the last 4-6 weeks. Job precedence has taken priority, so not much time for LC posting.
I will update again with a more detailed information at the top of the thread, but I'll tell you what's happened in a condensed version.
When I received the DT and EMS systems for testing the timing was December and scheduling for installs and Dyno time was pretty hectic so I looked at getting this done in January.
I use 034 Motorsports in Fremont CA for the dyno.
Test was done on the stock system at the beginning of January.
DT installed. Driven and evaluated. DT then dyno'd mid-late January.
EMS installed and Driven. Dyno time booked... This email comes to my inbox Feb 1:
" It looks like the issues that we were having before were due to one of the major roller bearings about to fail. Unfortunately, that bearing did completely fail last week, and has done some damage to the dyno itself. We are waiting for some new parts to get it back up and running, but It looks like it will be a week or two before we get it up and running. We also have 4 in shop tuning projects lined up to get working on, we are waiting to deliver, once it gets going again, so right now we are a pretty painful situation for dyno work. I do appreciate all of the work you have done here till now, but its going to probably be a couple of week until we have a dyno up and running again."
Didn't hear back from 034..so sent email on March 5 inquiring about the status.
I got a call back from 034 stating that the Dyno failure was more than a bearing and involved the eddy current brake... dyno has to go back to manufacturer (Land and Sea Dyno). Whoa! It would have been all fine because the new Mustang Dyno (ordered in Nov) is supposed to arrive today to replace. Unfortunately the truck carrying the new Mustang was involved in an accident in Nebraska. More delay. I told 034 I was moving on. With their help I sourced another a great shop with a 4wd dyno.
As you likely know I cannot mix the runs from the 034 with the dyno runs with runs from the new unit. All runs have to be done on the same dyno. I have to redo the first two runs.
Where are we today?
New Shop and New Dyno.
Since the EMS was on the truck already (waiting for that last run at 034) I started with that system... we dyno'd and got nice results. I uninstalled the EMS and reinstalled the DT. Today I dyno'd the DT and got some nice results. This weekend I will be swapping back to the stock system and plan to dyno on Wednesday.
I know I'm killing you guys with this....
--------------------------------------------------
I'm going to give you some results right now.... Keep in mind this is incomplete:
Based on the 034 dyno runs the DT makes more power than stock - I'm not going to put a number on it because we will use the new Superflow numbers to compare next week.
I can tell you... on the new Superflow Dyno the EMS makes more power than than the DT... roughly 8-10 whp more across most of the rev range.
--------------------------------------------------
Like I did for the DT headers I will be providing charts and data. Additionally I will be giving my impressions of each system with images, sound clips and video.
I know this has been a long road but the end is in sight.
