I know my limitations. Pulling apart the dash and installing equipment like this is way behind my abilities.
IMO, the difficult or tricky parts of the job are:

1) Knowing what order things need to be taken apart on the dash to get access to unbolting the infotainment display.
2) Routing the cabling for the microphone - I'm not sure I'd be comfortable routing it up to the rear view mirror like Eric has done on his installs.
3) Routing the cable for and installing the USB port that's needed. If the USB mount that comes with the Naviplus was the type that has a nut on the backside like add-on 12V sockets (and many of the add-on USB charging ports) have, it would be a simple matter of drilling a hole of the correct size and mounting it, but it sounds like it's just a friction fit sort of mount. Eric said he made use of the existing USB port that's used for connecting a flash drive or phone to the factory infotainment system, but I'd like to avoid modification of the stock wiring as much as possible.
4) Similarly, with the other system that's available from EC Vision & Sound, routing the GPS antenna cable to a suitable location to mount the antenna.

Connecting the Naviplus to the factory wiring harness sounds really simple once you know which connectors need to be used.

Having access to the factory service manual should make item 1 much less of a concern. Where do people download and/or purchase the FSM from? In my case, I suspect 2018 or newer would work as that's when the latest dashboard refresh was and changes are pretty minimal for 2020.

I'm not sure how to get past my other concerns, but I'm very tempted to go with one of these options.

Does anyone have a link to the instructions? I purchased the third unit from Eric and am having it installed locally (by a shop I have been using for 20+ years)

Thanks for all the great information. Just purchased the NaviPlus with wireless CarPlay adapter. Is this something my local Toyota dealership would be able to install? Are there instructions I can send them? Love the finished job, wish I was closer to Indiana for the install.

I would think that most dealers would be unwilling to install aftermarket items that they don't sell themselves. If you can't install it yourself, you're probably better off tracking down a local car audio installer with a reputation for doing great work. Another option would be to take a drive to Ed Martin Toyota and have them do the install - it looks like you're about 5 hours from them.

Not too bad of an install. It’s plug and play. Just a crap load of plugs. I’ve had a chance to use this quite a bit I the past few days since I installed it on my personal truck. I am very impressed how well it works. Wireless, steering wheel controls, everything. I will be stocking these going forward.

Eric-
A few questions:
  • Can you edit/customize the software?
  • Can you load 3rd party apps, e.g. ODB-II readers, Gaia?
  • Does this also include the speed sensor override so we can input stock navigation info while driving or watch dvds w/o the parking brake engaged?
  • Does it affect boot times?

Good questions:
I think your confusing this with GROM vline. This unit is CarPlay/android auto. Not a media input device. It works exactly like any other OE CarPlay. So no video, because Netflix/YouTube, etc don’t have CarPlay apps.
You can’t customize it because it’s Apple’s software. I don’t know of any obdii apps, but I’m not going to confirm as I don’t know. Gaia -YES, new to CarPlay this past update (shown in pic above). No boot time delays.

Eric - he may also be thinking of the product that was mentioned earlier in this thread from EC Offroad that appears to be similar to the Naviplus, in that it adds CarPlay, but is also an Android device with the ability to load Android apps, including OBDII apps, Google Maps, etc. If that product is for real, it sounds like it offers a few improvements over the Naviplus:

1) No need to manually switch to AUX audio to get sound from CarPlay apps
2) Is essentially a built-in Android device with SD card slot, multiple USB inputs, and so on, which means the functionality many of us are looking for can be achieved by using our phone as a WiFi hotspot to give the device Internet access.

I'm probably going to end up getting one of these units, but I'd like to hear more about the EC Offroad option before I make a purchase. The Naviplus already has more than enough feedback to be considered a solid option.

Didn’t realize it was only a CarPlay/Android auto adapter. Still very interested in it though.

Saw this video of an Aussie install is it the same unit?

I'm pretty sure that video covers the EC Offroad unit - notice how you don't have to select the AUX audio input before switching over to it.

Video looks pretty helpful. How about some videos about taking it apart (the parts he fast forwarded through)
Yeah, that would be super helpful - knowing the order things come apart in and what things are clipped on versus bolted on would make taking the dash apart and putting it back together a lot easier.

They emailed me the directions. PM Me and I will send to you.
