CarPlay works in a 2020 Land Cruiser

Odd question, but has anyone else experienced the touch screen not working when the vehicle is very cold? Last two mornings it has been below 30 here in VA and the screen pops up, but will take no touch inputs. I swapped back over to the Toyota home screen if you will, and touch inputs work, but then switch back to CarPlay and nothing. After 10 minutes or so, and the interior is warm, all works fine.

I've had the issue where my touch inputs won't work for the first second or two after moving to the NAVIPLUS unit (long hold of NAV). But they start working after that. Doesn't seem to be related to temperature, just that the NP unit isn't ready for inputs just yet. This is on a 2018 with resistive touchscreen.

Thx, temp may just be a coincidence but I had not experienced until the last few days and I have had mine in for several months in my 2020

No problem like that here with temps in the teens and 20's. Are you connecting by bluetooth or USB? I have gone to just using the USB connection because it has better sound.

Bluetooth. Once I finally got it hooked up correctly, I absolutely LOVE the system, CarPlay with the phone still in my pocket is awesome.

I would think so

I’ve noticed the same issue. Generally happens at the cabin where the temperatures are much lower. Usually starts working after a minute or two.

@Eric Sarjeant Have you experienced any differences in the CarPlay (and OEM infotainment) experience between 2016+ resistive screens and late-2018+ capacitive screens? Does swiping, dragging, and clicking feel laggier or less natural on the resistive? Does the resistive screen have more glare in direct sunlight or less sharpness/brightness/color depth?

No real differences from what I can tell. I had a 2016 before my 2019 and didn't even know there was a difference till I had a customer from Columbus, OH come to get a NaviPlus installed here in his MY2018 and the video cable didn't fit. Now we know.

Great information on this thread. Can anyone recommend a shop experienced with the Naviplus install in the Northeast US--in Massachusetts or within a reasonable drive? Looking to install this in a 2021 LC. Thanks!

If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, then any good stereo installer can do the job. Not that difficult.

The catch is actually finding a good car stereo installer... Since I'm in Massachusetts, I'd love to be able to help out and recommend a good place, but only have experience with one that I wouldn't recommend, though it was for a much more involved job than installing something like the Naviplus. I would suggest looking for specific shop recommendations from people and then asking to see actual examples of their work before letting a shop touch the Land Cruiser. You don't want to end up with a hacked up dash.

Sorry I think you meant to quote @mwr340 .

No, I was primarily responding to your "find a good stereo installer" comment and was sort of responding to both of you... Since I didn't have a specific shop recommendation for @mwr340, I didn't see a need to quote their post as well.

I have the same question for someone in the Pacific Northwest (preferably Oregon, even better would be Bend, OR). This is definitely something I want to do. I don't mind plugging the wires together. I'm just concerned about taking apart the dash and head unit. I watched the video someone shared and the guy made it look easy. But he was an experienced stereo installer.

If you're comfortable with the wiring part of the job, the process of taking the dash apart really is about as simple as shown in the video. The key is to take it slow and be careful so you don't scratch things up in the process. IMHO, the hardest part is pulling the 2 vents out as it's a bit tricky to get a good grip on them to get them started.

Second issue: if I have the Land Cruiser 360 camera set to activate automatically when approaching a full stop, it will activate correctly, but then it will not return to CarPlay once I start to drive away. It reverts to the factory GPS screen. As such I cannot use this auto camera setting any longer.
Did you happen to find a solution for this? It’s probably the biggest thing holding me back from doing this mod.

Finally had enough of the LC infotainment system. Just placed my order with Naviplus for my 2017 LC. Looking forward to getting this and installing.
