Getting ready to do the same job how was getting those lower older panels off my trucks in pretty good shape but 30 yr old plastic scares me
that looks great...ordering my carpet now. Can you tell me about what you laid down underneath as far as the foil backed and the jute? My rig came from AZ so I am hoping I dont run into the rust problems that you did.
Thanks....just ordered the 3 items above from Amazon and ebay....also have a POR kit coming in case I encounter any rust. Looking forward to having my carpet looking as good as the rest of my truck. My kit is coming from @dnp.....ordered it last week. I am wondering how hard it was to get the cuts around the heater right and did you have to remove your stickshift. Not sure if i know how to do that.Fatmat from Amazon. 75 Sqft, 80mil. $156. Maybe get 100 sqft if you plan to do all 4 doors and rear trunk panels. Or be more conservative. I probably could have pulled the whole thing off if I made zero mistakes.
3 yards (which was perfect as I had a few scraps left over) of 40 oz Jute Padding from local upholstery shop. I paid $10 per yard. I’m told it can be found for as cheap as $5 per yard.
3 cans of high quality Spray Adhesive. I got this from the upholstery shop and ran out after 2 cans.
I also used an electric Hot Exacto Knife to make all of my cuts. I kept reading about using a soldering iron but the hot knife is even better.
I bought my truck in AZ as well over 9years ago. It spent most of its life out west. It has very little rust anywhere. That wheel well rust is really common, even on west coast vehicles. After digging into it made me wonder why Toyota would design that seat post that way as it was destined to collect water there.
Let me know if have anymore questions while this gig is still fresh in my mind.

I will post my project when I do it. I dont have the kit yet, but the biggest difference I can see is price....I paid less than $400 including shipping. I read his thread and it looks like he paid very close attention to detail to get it to as close to OEM as possible. We will see....I ordered my jute and I see you used the carpet as a template to cut out the holes where needed. Did you then tac it down and then proceed with the carpet? I could see where this would help to find the places to cut the carpet. I am imagining I will find the holes for the seats and cut small round holes for the bolts and bolt the carpet in and then go around and cut from that point on. Should be a good project. One thing I wish I had done was not rush on the removal on the old carpet. It's really helpful to use the old carpet as a jig for cutting holes. I laid the old middle piece on top of the new middle piece so I could trace out the holes. I cut the shifter and transfer case holes in place and cut a little bit at a time. You can always cut more... You can't go back and cut less.
I suppose you could do it with the shifter sticks on but it would be really painful. The gear shifter comes off fairly easy. There are a few threads out there on this. Here was the one I found most helpful for the gear shifter. The Transfer case shifter came off with some wrenches. You probably have to remove your tranny/diff cover to get underneath the truck. This is a good time to do the 4lo/2lo mod to that bracket since you're gonna get that thing all loose here anyway.
I'm curious on the quality of the DNP kit. What are the major differences (if any) on the kits.

Long story of how I got the bottom frame. It just so happened to fit perfect under the 60 Seats. It’s great for drinking beer and rolling around while you watch someone else turn the wrench.

@John Staton it’ my understanding that the DNP kit comes with Jute Padding allready glued on to the carpet.
Whoops... Looks like I left that link off on the shifter removal. Remove Gear Shifter - How To Easily. I didn't have that nifty bottle opener rubber thingy from the thread... I just used a rag.
The transfer case shifter takes a few wrenches. Most of the work was from underneath the truck to remove this. Like I said before... I took the bracket off and cut the "wing" off so I can shift into 2lo now.
I feel triggered by the Trump flag, could you remove the picture??![]()
Kit comes with Jute but I ended up doing a layer of the sound deadener followed by a layer of jute that i spray glued down. I then floated the carpet on top of that. Just felt like it gave me another layer to block out sound and heat. Another handy tip is to use two rows of plastic channel that runs beside the door so that the carpet is flat all the way up to the door jamb. Cut slow and take your time. Mine came out perfect. I did take the transmission shifter off but not the transfer shifter...just pushed the carpet right up to it and cut a hole where it needed to be to fit around the shifter and then slowly started cutting out until I had it perfect. The shifter holes were the absolute last thing I did. I even had the jambs all installed before I cut them. Use a sodering iron to cut the holes for the seat to anchor the carpet down in place and I also ordered a heated exacto knife. Also, order a 12" pair of heavy duty scissors off of amazon....will cut the jute and the carpet very easily....will also cut your hand if you are not carful.

Sure....Wow John. Looks like it turned out really well. Post a few finished ones in here would ya?
Steam is definitely the way to go on the tint.
Ok, so I finally got the backing plate off and successfully made the wheel well look like swiss cheese. It's hard to tell where the bottom rivets are. I had to search the web until I found a pic of one. Thank you very much to this blog. 84 FJ60 RESTO then I guessed at where I thought it was. Got it wrong... drilled another two holes and this time was successful.

Oh man. I’d be guessing... buuuut I think it was the bottom ones.Hey Joe, could you point out which of those bottom holes were the right ones? Assuming you still remember after almost 3 years. Thanks!
