Can't program replacement remote for 97 LX450

I did the same thing after one of the first set of two broke. No problem, had good luck the first time so back on Ebay to order another set, it looked the same s the first ones as well as said it would work for a 1997 LX, but it did nothing when I attempted to program it. So I went back to my Ebay history, called up the first order, went back to his store and he had more of the same for sale , so I bought another pair, ran through the steps and...presto I now have three working remotes.
Use the link to the seller from my previous post and that is what I have had luck with twice. Good luck to you all!!

Tried programing the new remote again and still nothing. I happened to remember where the OEM remote was and it would not work either.
Then tried programing the OEM and it worked!
Next tried the new remote again and it worked as well!
It seems that I was waiting too long to push the program button on the remote. It needs to be pushed as soon as the remote indicator light comes on. The ignition
needs to be turned off and door closed before the remote will work.
This thread helped me and hope this info helps!
Here is a photo of the new remote:

So with a possibility of 5 FCC codes, is the code on the box under the seat as well? I didn't have one of the remotes when I bought the truck.

I found my FCC id# on the "brain" unit under the front seat, I wound up taking it out from under the seat to see the numbers, but my remotes of off Ebay worked out for me.

I bought an aftermarket -032 remote that specifically said it was for 96 and 97 LX450, but no programming joy.

As soon as I get refunded for the last remote I will be ordering the same ones you ordered from ebay. Maybe 3rd time is a charm.

Won't work on 96 LX450

I'm so frustrated! I followed this thread and bought this remote:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200983105129?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I've tried all of these ways and had no luck:

  1. A. Key in ON position, drivers door open
    B. Push green button under seat for 3 seconds; red security light on dashboard glows solid
    C. Release green button and, while red light is still on, press button on remote for 1 second
    D. Result= the red light does not immediately go off. It waits until the end of the 5 second cycle then turns off
  2. Same A and B as above. For step C, press remote button for a long time. Same result D as above
  3. Same A and B as above. For step C, I do not release the green button and instead press the remote button as soon as the red light comes on. Result: red light immediately starts blinking, but nothing else happens
  4. I also repeated all 3 scenarios above, but after the red light went out, I turned off the ignition, closed the door, and tried pressing the remote button. Nada.
  5. I also tried doing A and B, and as soon as the red light comes on I shut the drivers door and pressed the remote button from outside of the car. Nothing.

Further Developments

I spent 20 minutes on the phone with KeylessRide's tech support. (but it still isn't working ). FYI, here are the additional steps I took. They suggested that I reset the system. Here's how you do that:

1. Press green button for 3 seconds until the red light comes on. Release the green button
2. While red light is on, press green button for 3 more seconds. This will cause all lights on the dashboard to blink rapidly a few times

After the reset, I tried the earlier programming procedures, but nothing.

As a last ditch, he suggested that I disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. I tried that, but still nothing.

Next I'll talk to his manager, but that guy won't be in for an hour.

Success!!! the second remote I ordered from remotesandkeys.com didn't work. I called them up for a refund and they were adamant that it should work. this was the remote that ended with the -032. They told me they had success with numerous LX450's. They decided to send me a new one that was identical to the first. I was rather certain it wouldn't work but it did. It programed on the first try without issue. It also has a range of almost triple my old remote. I can unlock and lock the doors from much further now. Here's the link to the one I bought. They sent me return packaging to send the bad one back on their dime.

Alright, bhicks, I just ordered that $34 clicker. Fingers crossed!

Final update on KeylessTech: called one more time, they suggested that, without the Key in the ignition, I unplug the wiring harnesses from the receiver. The theory was this would reset the firmware. I tried that, and still nothing. So they issued me an RMA.

Does it actually pop the hatch & sound the horn or are those buttons just for s***s & grins?

I've been trying to get a remote to work for my '97 LX. After trying 2 remotes I ordered @ the same time about 25 times each I called the ebay place I bought them from. Remote co. said they sent me a -056 & a '97 LX calls for a -013. Do I need a -013?????

Hope this helps. If the referenced auction is over I'd contact the seller.

I ordered a second one as a spare and it too programmed up on the first try.

Remotesandkeys sent me yet another remote and that one didn't program either, so they said they would refund my money. My original still works and programs and reprograms normally, but it is beat up.

The saga continues

I still don't have a working remote. Remember that I have a 1996 LX450 so YMMV.

1. I tried the $15 Keyless Ride one first. The same one that Parsnip just referenced.
2. I then tried the $34 RemotesAndKeys one. Also did not work. I called Tech Support a few times and they suggested I call the Lexus dealership and ask them for the OEM part number for the Remote FOB.

The Lexus dealership told me I needed model 08191-60820. When I read this number to the RemotesAndKeys tech support, they said "08191? Really? You're not sure it's 06191?" I confirmed the model number with Lexus, and RemotesAndKeys gave me a refund.

So the last thing I'm trying is this $45 OEM remote from eBay. The model number matches, and it's the real deal. So if this doesn't work then maybe it's a problem with the receiver although I doubt that. It should arrive tomorrow.

<snip>

BTW have you tried the procedure to make the module forget all the learned remotes? IIRC I read that it can only remember four at once.

From memory the procedure is: Key to run (not start), press green button until sec light on, release green button, press green button again until sec light flashes, key to off.

Yes, I did try that procedure. I also disconnected the battery for 5 minutes which was another attempt to restore the receiver to factory settings. No dice.

OEM Remote didn't work, either

I received the brand new Lexus OEM Remote today (Toyota Part# 08191-60820). Tried all of the usual programming procedures, and it's still not working.

So I think this marks the end of my frustrating journey. I will happily unlock the doors the old fashioned way.

Does anyone want to buy the OEM Remote from me, before I put it on eBay? $50 including shipping.
