We had a great run at the BOR Knolls White Knuckle race today!

It's that time again of year, Baja 1000 prep time. They say races are won or lost not on the course but in the shop with prep leading up to the race. We just finished a fantastic race last Saturday and it's time to post-race inspection and full prep. We will remove every piece of suspension, remove and inspect diffs, replace the steering rack, tie rod ends and axle bearings. Prep for a short race can be done in a few weeks but undoubtedly we'll be working on this prep until the wee hours, night after night until Baja. Go @canguroracing

Wow. You guys make it look easy. Amazing work and pursuit of passion. Are those tshirts still available for purchase?

Something is missing, I just can't put my finger on it?

How are they stock alignment tabs holding up? Have you thought about contacting Total Chaos to get the weld on tabs?

since it was born a Lexus, its missing the KDSS. probably helps clear the 37s.

have you had any problems with the front diff? curious if the longer travel and bigger tires have worn out components.

@cruiseroutfit are you running a body lift on it? That drivers side body mount looks like it :hmm: probably made getting the cage in and servicing easier among other benefits.

We have to repair them each go around. Technically we are not allowed to "reinforce" any suspension arm mounting points per our class rules.

Yes, we replace the front diff at least once a season. Fortunately no catastrophic failures but damage housings and ring gears. A new diff will be going in this one.

Yes, Geiser Brothers built a custom body lift setup to allow full clearance of 35's with stock control arms and minimal clearancing of fenders

Prep for the 2018 Baja 1000 is deep underway and we had a big list of things to address. Our front diff housing was replaced. The extended down travel wreaks havoc on the housing halves, they last a long time bit we see a bit of stretching in the bolts. The old housing had 5k+ race miles so it was time for an all new housing.

We R&R'd the rear diff. Rear axle bearings and housing, front wheel bearings/hubs (watch for Cruiser Outfitters service kits for those items), a new steering rack and TRE's, rebuild shocks, new UCA's, LCA's and front and rear and track bar. New plugs and drive belt. Oil analysis came back good so we'll do an oil change and call the motor good

Coming along

Modifying the new hood for the hold down pins/grommets. Years of cutting old snorkel holes in other people fenders made this a confident process :D

She done... ready for the race after approx 200 man hours of prep work and ~$14k in replacement parts and spares. We have some decals to place on the new hood (LCD and Maxtrax ) and we'll check fluids in MX. Other than that, wish us luck!

Now to start prepping chase trucks and pack.

Is clearancing of the fenders allowed under class rules? Would think that it'd advantageous to keep the body as low as possible to maximize aero and center of gravity?

Yes, we can and do trim fenders. I cut these ones and welded a small price of round stock to reinforce the edge. Keep in mind that is a true 37" tire.
