Hey guys,

Anyone know of a local (or even Canadian) shop that sells these? Superflow MV-50

Was thinking about hard-mounting it in the engine compartment. This little compressor got pretty good reviews even against the "big guys".

Glenn has a couple, he said he got his from Amazon... but amazon.ca doesnt have them and amazon.com won't ship them to Canada

Trail-gear.ca has then for $82.99 which I think is kind of expensive.

On that note, I'm certainly open to suggestion for other 12v compressors. I don't want a huge tank and something that will cost me $400 though. Just can't afford it.

I saw what Glen had and i was impressed and looked it up online and it seems its only available from the usa. About 4 days later i was in Costco and saw the almost identical one made by Bonair for 39.99
I bought it and just tried it out today with good results. I dropped my tires down to 14lbs and inflated them to 30lbs in 4 min.

I believe Glenn paid $140 for 2 and had to pick them up in the States (he'll correct me if I'm wrong), so that $82.99 may not be quite as bad as it seems.

Pity is apparently places in the US like Pep Boys etc were at one point selling them for $25-30 until some folks figured out they were actually pretty good little compressors... now they're $60+.

Picked one of the Bon Aire DD25 CN's up today from Costco for $39.95. It seems a little lighter duty than the MV-50 though. Going to give it a try this afternoon and post the results.

Took about 10 min to go from 20 PSI to 50 PSI. Not too bad I guess, would be a great tool in a pinch. Don't think it will stand up to the requests of a weekly OBA system though. I wouldn't want to (voluntarily) air up 4 tires with it after wheeling. Guess I gotta save up for something better... :)

Great news. My Grandparents-in-law are in Yuma (their winter home) and said they'd bring it back for me. I'll have it in April (perfect time for my birthday, heh heh)

Buzzard-Gulch has it on ebay for $229.95 shipped (in the states)

Any idea how much they charge? eBay has free shipping on this guy: https://forum.ih8mud.com/camping-outdoor-gear/166969-puma-12v-compressor.html

Andrew, i have a Puma(24volt) at home and they're the same ones they run on most of the shovels up here in our wonderful oilsands mines. Like Glen said you can easily get away with #10(good for 30amps) and even #8awg will do. I'll snap a pic tomorrow for you and post it up with dimensions. Its a burly unit and i wouldn't hesitate to give one a try.
Cheers!

Very cool Dan. How hard is it to seperate the tank from the compressor? I really like the mounting job the guy with the Tacoma did in the linked thread above. Compressor in the engine bay, tank tucked underneath. Is there a maximum distance between the tank and the compressor?

The Puma puts out 30 cfm @ 90 psi? i think that must be a typo. probably more like 3 cfm @ 90 psi. my 240v twin piston devilbiss (great for painting and running air sanders, etc...) proabbly only puts out 15-20 cfm, which is a lot. looks like a good unit tho, nicer than my masterflow twin (chrome!:crybaby:) which I use as a backup to the engine driven York. I wonder if you can easily remove the tank? might be nice to put a larger tank under the truck somewhere. Andrew, have you looked at theMorbs' OBA setup? Seems pretty good.

Hey, yeah I have... very slick. Apparently the Puma unit comes apart too. (check linked thread above)

Here are the specs from the site:

125 PSI
oil-Less compressor
Pressure Switch
Compact, lightweight 28 lbs
3.4 cfm @ 40 psi
3 cfm @ 90 psi

Dimentions: 15" High, 14" Long, 5" Deep
100% Duty Cycle
30 amp draw
1750 rpm
60 dec noise level
23 lbs
1 Year warranty

E-Bay $230 (better than Buzzard Gulch), I guess maybe $20-30 via clipper, plus HST. The Puma produces 30cfm at 90 psi, draws 30 amps so you will need probabaly 6 or 8 gauge for a return run of 20 feet of cable. Trotac Marine has 40 amp circuit breakers that are about $8 each.

3.0 cfm af 90 psi seems decent, although I suspect overrated.

For $229+ I'd install a York or other engine driven compressor.
I've been running an A6 Delco rotary vane compressor for years... Despite their bad rep, it's never let me down.

$229 isn't far off what my set up would have cost if I had to pay for the tank... By the time you buy pressure switch, check valve, unloader, etc, etc.

I would be inclined to put an electric compressor somewhere cool and dry if possible, not in the engine bay......

I would love a York in addition to my electric one, but I haven't seen anybody manage to fit one on an 1HD-T without removing the factory A/C.

I don't have that problem in my 40 :D

It would make sence to mount it outside of the engine bay... I've had an air line blow under the hood because of the pressure and heat.

You might be surprised how many people ducked and covered, when an air line at 150 psi blew in the line up at the Peace Arch crossing.:hillbilly:

These days you might even get to see the Swat team if it happened in some areas.

Here's a pic of the one that's on the shovel that i'm building right now. I wouldn't be too worried about reliability with these things, as i haven't seen nor heard of one blowing up yet and these things work 24/7. There's alot of options out there and they spec them for 15million dollar shovels, so i'll try my luck at filling tires on my truck a dozen times a year.
Cheers!
PS:here it is remotely mounted/plumbed with dims
