Hi Cuervo ,I was wondering if those rollbars for the 79 series pick up are standard?
In Australia we would have to buy that separately but its a good idea considering the rollovers here.
I was also curious as to what carb the 1FZ uses?
The carbed 1FZ would have to be miles ahead of the old 3F:D

Yes, the rollbars are standard 79 series pick up in Venezuela.

I think the Darian Gap expedition would be very cool, and very disappointing.
You are basically driving across a swap. I did some research on this.
It is possible, but most people hire guides between villages to show them the best and safest way of traveling. Not many of our vehicles would make the trip, I include myself there. I doubt my 80 would do it unless I install a Slee 6" lift and 35" MT (or bigger, and portals would be nice too).

And if you do make it, you end up in guerilla ruled drug country Columbia, and I am sure they would just love to have our cruisers. It's noted as the most dangerous place to travel on earth.

Sorry to be the pessimist.

Cheers,
Nick

sounds more like a pessimistic reality to me..... :)

From what I understand, the Colombian side of the DArian is a national park. You would have to get VERY special permission to do this trek.
As of right now, I am typing this post in an internet cafe in Xela, Guatemala. I have seen quite a few diesel 70 series. Mostly BJ70s and a lot of PRADOS. I want one bad. It´s not my first time down here so I knew what to expect.
Oh well. I am actually considering moving down here for good. I´ll just have to buy one when I get down here.;)

Hi Nick

I think your opinion is looking on the bright side...

Infections and tropical disease are my first concerns, they are the real
killers.

Thanks

I'm not sure about national park on Colombian side .. but sure in Panamá side are a park, so the permisions are not a really big deal, if you know the correct way to do that.

NIck are so reallist .. and get a Point with the Colombian FACRs ( Fuerzas de Accion de Colombia Republicana . ? ) as I said before ..

The disease theme are important .. but you can prevent all problems .. anycase .. as same, when you go wheeling you go prepared with firsrt aid kit .. here you need to go with BIG first and second :D aid kit ..

Darien Gap, sweet! I'm in. I just need to talk the wife into letting me go. We'll be gone for what, three to six months? I had better get current on my shots. We should get some pointers from Helge Pedersen before we go. He rode his BMW motorcycle through there, from south to north 25 to 30 years ago.

What about the poisonous critters?

a lots .. ! jajajaja there are many " trails " all for people inside the Darien Gap sometimes I thought if we go with cars, need to make our own way .. but the secret is keep those traks ..

Are by far the best ( empirical ) way to cross ..

I used to live in Venezuela and I owned a brand new 2002 80 series. When I asked for advice to bring it into the US, the advice was simple. Sell your rig over there (cash) :crybaby: :crybaby: and buy another one used here (credit):) , and try to get it with factory lockers and save some $$$ ...I found one with no lockers…but and I’m having fun with it…

BS Colombia is not a guerilla rulled drug country. Your opinion is not only pessimistic but also ignorant in every respect.
