That sure is close to the gas tank and fuel lines! You going to weld that in asbestos shorts?

You're moving fast though, and yep-the slider is nothing. You don't even need it.

Yeah, what he said, weld those bishes to the frame and delete the mounting brackets.

I threw serious sparks at all parts of the fuel system for over an hour grinding off the rivets for all the old spring hangers. If it was going to light off, it would have.

Getting the old brackets off has to be the worst part of the job.

I got the buckets trimmed and made a template for a bracket like JT and I drew on the table.

I think you'll even be able to get the gas tank back out if you need to.

Removing spring/shackle hangers and the associated rivets SUCKS BALLS.

I don't have an air hammer or compressor that would run one very long. I tried my hammer drill with a chisel, but had no luck. So it's grind that MF'er down, beat the bracket off, grind the rest down. Which means laying under the truck getting covered in sparks and grinder dust. Awesome.

My neighbors are glad that is over. Said grinding and beating happened about 11:00 pm:grinpimp:

Best time to grind and do some beating.

Nice find.

I also saw an 80 series parking brake cable on Amazon for $55. Not saying you'll need one, but it sure looks like it. I'll buy from Beno when the time comes, but since you're already bottom feeding, just thought I'd pass it along!

Around here, Autozone hires nearly illiterate help that is different every time I go in, and so I basically don't go there. Orreilly's is 1 step up, Napa is 1.5 steps up, Carquest is actually helpful and decent. I swear if you get fired for stealing and toothlessness at Walmart, there's a place for you at AutoZone.

I accidentally discovered the 555's when replacing them at the last minute after the Rubicon to go on a trip. Napa only had one end, and when I went to Autozone, I was pleasantly surprised 555's in the box. Memphis is home to Autozone, so maybe we get a better selection of hired help, but I do see the same people in the store when I go. "Pedro" was my help today. Nice fella.

The parking brake cable would be an excellent opportunity for @beno to get in on the sponsorship action of this build. If he charges me, though, I think those cables are only $55 or so anyway.

It's funny keeping track of all of my phone numbers and vehicle information used to track down the warranty info. My 1985 Toyota Landcruiser is/has also been a 1989 Astro Van, 1997 Lexus LX450, and a 2007 GMC Sierra. Now it will also be a '93 LC (front axle), and a '96 LC (rear axle). I'm not sure I have any FJ60 parts left that Autozone would even stock.

Look at the smile on his face! He loves this sh!t.

Big shout-out to Bomar for coming out to broadcast live from the carport. While he was there I got the crossmember cut down and fitted with the trusty plasma cutter (love that thang, as you can tell in the pic!)

After the Bomars left, I put the finishing touches on the coil buckets. I cut out a bracket tgat ties back to two surfaces of the frame to resist the upward forces that it will surely see when I take this beast off sweet jumps. Since the side & front will also be welded & providing support, I think we'll be fine without a full crossmember.
