I am also not a fan of the stinger bumpers. Looks too much like it belongs on a Heep to go on my rig. But you've done an awesome job fabbing that thing up.:cheers:

I would think the placement of the top set of lights would cause a lot of glare. In crappy weather, big ol' lights right in front of your face like that is going to suck. Might be ok for just wheeling, but you'll probably find that it's too much like holding a flashlight next to your eyes. You might try it before you powdercoat over the mounting tabs. You might really, really hate that angle.

Now that's a Purtty Stinger

Much props....

The elusive FOR 80-series bumper! Is he in production yet or is this a one-off?

The stinger is a one-off deal special for me. Though I bet he'd do one for anyone that asks. The base - the laser cut and formed winch craddle on this specific bumper is actually one of the two prototype pieces he had made. He's loosing money selling me the prototype at the price he did, but I'm getting the bennifit of being supportive of him starting up. You'll have to talk to Frankie to get the scoop on when he can get you one.

well, it appears to be quite stout (wowza!).

Never dug on stingers much, but it will keep the dents away!

I am a prime advocate of pretty vs. functional :)

Well you don't see me putting my MOTHER up here for comments. If you can't handle the comments keep your photos to yourself.

OH, I can handle the comments, and I respond to them according to the comment. Any one of the comments below, are made by adults, and I didn't respond to any of them as I did to you. Your comment was imature and rude, so you got the response you did. If YOU can't handle an equal response to the level of your comment, maybe you should keep your comments to yourself.

what's that saying..."only a baby a mother could love". Glad you got what you wanted and am happy with it.

I hate to say it but I agree...but to each his own, if you like it I'm tickled to death;)

Not my cup-o-tea, but looks pretty stout.

one note to all - I asked Frankie to make me this bumper with a stinger - for his design, check out his high entry bumper thread.

WOW, thank you for teaching me the way to grow up all in one post. I can now go out into this world a Man. :flipoff2:

Have FUN with your bumper.

OUT

I'm in the Not-a-fan-of-stingers group, but it looks very well-made, and it's always exciting to put some new stuff on the Cruiser.
Congrats.

Apologies in advance if this is off-topic, but what exactly is a stinger supposed to do?
I've never quite figured them out.

They are meant to keep you from tipping over frontwards which is a big problem with the lightweight 80 series vehicles.

Ya', that's one purpose. And despite your sarcasm, tipping the 80 butt over front, is possible. I've gotton into situations at Disney where the rear started to lift up when going down a ledge cause of the limited front flex. Discussed that on another thread, and found that I'm not the only one who's found this to be an issue.

It also gives something better than a flat vertical surface to hit an obstical with. Weither that be a rock ledge that is just a tad taller than your bumper, or doing a little high speed running (with a F engine, Tired Iron wouldn't know about that ;) ), and hit a couple whoops too hard, it's better to bash into the whoop with something at a angle than vertical. I don't know when they started getting called stingers. Perhaps once they got taller than the hood? Used to just be a pre-runner style bumper. Or at least that's where I see the evolution of it.

I wanted it taller than the hood so I could see it. If I can see it, I'll have a better feel for when I'm gonna hit what.

The last purpose is to serve as the starting point of a exocage.

Like it or hate it, Frankie did a really nice job on the basic bumper design, and a good job working with someone a thousand miles away to do some custom work to it.

none of that makes sense to me except the last sentence. just sayin'. :flipoff2:

The reason they do that is the terrain in S. America. It's all deep, hood level water crossings so they keep the lights & winch hook high. For the steep drop-in's on the short wheelbase 70's, they have the tall hoop- which only sticks out about the thickness of the light.

could be wilder I guess
