building more LPB beds... come watch

Also I should let everyone know I will be making several extra gates. So if you have been wanting one for some time but didn't want the hassle of buying overseas let me know. They will be full on original replicas with the raised lettering. Let me know if you need the three or four hinge style too. They'll be $500.00 Canadian funds. Each. Plus shipping. I haven't figured out shipping yet.

I have no plans to ever own another 45 but I`m tempted to buy a tailgate at that price just to put on the wall of my man cave (it`ll have to hang sideways but someday I`ll have a bigger cave than Harry Potter`s closet under the stairs.) I can`t believe every LWB owner wouldn`t buy one of these just in case.

I was helping a fellow look for a tailgate for a `68 Mercury M100 which can`t be all that much more rare and they were getting $1000 every time one showed up on ebay.

Well My 66 has the raised area for the 4X4..

You really need to stop all this foolishness...and find something your good at !!

.

I thought so, thank you.

Kevin, the AZ boys would like 1 three hinge and 1 four hinge

Thanks, I'll call you tomorrow

Ok, I started a list. So is that you and Jim Or Frank? Frank sent me a mssg too so if yer talkin you and Jim then that means all three.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I might make one that says Awl_TEQ and hang it in my garage or put it on when I eventually attend events in the US. There's no anonymity while driving a 45 anyway.

Great work. Decided to lurk in th 45 thread instead of working on my 42..... This is however inspiring! I just watched all the videos. Impressive to say the least!!!

Thanks, I've been keeping tabs on your build too. Nice work.

Replied, thanks.

I concure, My 1966 has the raised oval for the 4x4 decal also.
PS: Thanks for this post, I am now going to be compleatly worthless at work today!

Here is a one min real time vid of the chain anchor plates being cut out today. Thats 10 ga (0.135) cold rolled steel on a 4000w laser.

Also started cutting out the parts to make a letter stamping die set. That is until the cutting head hit the part and alarmed out the machine :bang:
Then after tech support helped us clear the alarm there was some bad geometry later on in the program that caused a new alarm. So I had to re-program the oval die to get rid of some tiny lines that the laser didn't like. Anyway, its all good now.

I'm planning to bend up the top rails and finish the bottom channels today and if I have time I'll try and stamp a letter or two.

BUT!.... I have a question.... did the 63 to 67 USA units have the oval on the right side for that chrome 4x4 sticker or was that introduced later????

63 was short bed only but all long wheel base trucks had the oval for the 4X4 emblem. Talking with someone in Australia years ago he claimed the ovel was stamped but later truck didn't come the emblem:meh:

I PMed you a while back about a couple of pieces for the tailgate. Now your price for a whole new gate :hhmm: I need to do some checking. How bad is the exchange with the US:bang: I am in AZ if there is a group ship.

Count me in on a tailgate! LMK on details. Anyone in the Southwest want to combine shipping?

There are three going to Tucson AZ.

As I mentioned somewhere in this or another thread, I have not explored shipping methods yet.

There will be one or more Calgarians going to Rubicon next June and I'm sure a mudship could be arranged for a fair amount of goods.

If people don't mind waiting that is.

Kevin,

Put me down for one as well (3 Hinge). I would have loved to get in on the bed batch but timing was off. At least I got one of your headache racks. Let us know payment details when you are ready. Thanks for doing this.

That sounds like a good plan if I can wait that long. I will be at Rubithon.

Ok......I'm in for a 3 hinger.......

Anyone else in S. SoCal getting one......combine shipping???

Ok, Thursday night my wife took my son to football practice so I could stay at the shop late. I managed to get the bottom channel end offset done and install the M8 captured nuts for the hinges.

Also got the top rails all bent into shape.

And ran out of time to try the letters.

Friday I finally managed to try the letters.....

These are the "tools" or "dies" I made.

Spelling was always my weekness.

I was just checking the dies to see if they worked properly but I couldn't resist making a few panels. Each letter is cool enough but seeing them together was that much cooler. I hope this doesn't sound self serving or arrogant but I am pretty impressed with my pressings.
