got to Spector off road and do search by part number and type this number in 172-81, it says they have used FJ40 tachs for $70 and BJ diesel models used for $90, I never seen this before on their website until now, ?

Good luck

Look closely at the areas indicated with the yellow arrows, you will see that I cut grooves in both the case and the centre portion, the circuit board is held in place in these groves and fixed with a few blobs of clear silicone.

Hope that helps.

Very nice!

My previous owner already cut and installed a replacement tachometer, but I'm not pleased with it.

1: cheesy looking and goes up to 8000 rpm unnecessarily.
2: Sticks WAY back behind the dash, interfering with the ducting for my driver's side defrost.

Ideally I'd like to replace the existing tach in the same location (no more cutting my dash!) with a more authentic looking tach (matching number font and size and background color/lines/lighting) that doesn't sit SO far back behind the dash, and goes up to 4000 rpm. 6000 rpm at worst.

JC Whitney (and others) have a Jeep replacement tachometer (see attached) that has a smilar font, and runs up to 6000rpm. I sorta like it. But I'm not sure about dimensions and how it will look lighted.

Ideas?
