Any place , prefer online to get a rebuild kit to brake booster of toyota land cruiser 80 series year 97 ( USA model)

I was looking a lot and dont find nothing , i dont want to get a aftermarket cheap booster , the toyota one new is insane expensive.

Thanks .

I ordered an OEM booster from Partsouq.com. Still expensive but less than dealers sell them for here for some reason. I wouldn't be surprised if you could order one direct from Japan through someone like Japan4x4 for cheaper.

Thanks so much for the info i will try to repair or get an alterne because the oem here are not avalaible for costs.

There are shops that rebuild them, or you can get one from Rock Auto for $151.00 plus $50.00 core.

For $250... Had mine in for 9 months so far, no issues. Other folk seem happy with the product.

cheers,
george.

Necro bump after searching...

SO! After watching this booster rebuild video on the YouTubes, two things come to mind:

- Rebuilding a brake booster ain't that complicated.

- Why isn't there a rebuild kit for the mighty 80?
Two things (yes, I watched the video): 1) Nissan bought their boosters from Nabco, not Aisin, so why would you think they were the same? 2) The clever youtuber edited out the part where he proved the repair actually worked, if that even happened. Replacing parts is one thing, actually restoring an assembly to 100% operation is another.

Don't get me wrong, I wish there were rebuild parts for these things; new ones cost too much. Same with alternators; OEM parts to rebuild them cost more than a rebuilt unit.

🤦‍♂️

RE: 1 - I’ll skip over the fact that I never actually said nor implied that “they were the same” and jump to the part where the 1980’s (if not earlier) designed brake boosters in our 80’s series are not some new-fangled design made with super-secret features by the magical elves in Toyota’s version of Skunkworks. For all intent and purpose, a brake booster is a brake booster is a brake booster.

RE: 2 - This isn’t some sleight of hand video, but it does illustrate to a backyard bumpkin mechanic like me that rebuilding a brake booster is, at most, a two :banana: job. And if you look at that fellow’s other videos and see what he’s actually doing, you would have a hard time doubting the integrity of his work (but that’s not really relevant to the discussion at hand).

Lastly, there are re-manufactured boosters sold on places like Rock-Auto, presumably someone is manufacturing new diaphragms for our booster. With more and more NLA parts with each passing year, I surely think this is worth giving a thought by the MUD brain-trust.

Hey George ,
I am looking at the same product, and I was wondering what brand it is. Do you recall seeing any brand names on your item?

Thx

It didn't have a brand on it. I had done a bunch of searching on mud and there use to be a recommended replacement (that may or may not have been oem), but it no longer exists or is available. I then saw quite a few folk (some of the mud respected ones too) stating that the Cityracer unit was a good alternative. For the price I figured it was worth trying it and so far it is performing as it should.

Maybe if you reach out to Cityracer he can at least confirm country of origin and pedigree.

cheers,
george.

I emailed him today but i'll call him tomorrow. I'm going to replace the master cylinder as well and was trying to figure out which one to get since I have eliminated LSPV + ABS. Let me do a search to see which year non ABS MC is suggested. Thanks for the feedback.

When I bought mine a few weeks ago from @cruiseroutfit, they had me buy the booster and MC for the ABS version even though I had removed the ABS and LSPV. I called and told them the situation and this was still the recommendation even with removing both systems.

Someone recently posted that there is a company in Australia that is planning to manufacture new boosters for the 80 Series. Try a search.

FWIW I found that SEIKEN may have (in the past at least) sold a brake booster rebuild/repair kit for the 80 Series booster but it doesn't seem to
be available in the US (maybe available in Asia?). SEIKEN may also still make a Master Cylinder rebuild/repair kit but that is not currently available at Partsouq.

excellent info, thank you gents.

I didn't want to start a new thread on replacing the brake booster so i'm posting up my experience from last weekend. I purchase a new MC and BB from City Racer and swapped out the 30 year old OEM BB + MC. The OEM unit pulled out w/o lifting the engine, but the replacement unit has a larger diameter (protruded part in the center) and the engine has to be lifted up by undoing both motor mount bottom nuts. Otherwise, it was a straighforward, all be it a total PITA job. I had to enlist the help of my daughter as my frustration level reached quite high :bang: She has flexibility, dexterity, and a supple lower back!

One hint: you'll need to bench bleed the MC which requires you to use a pair of soft brake hoses screwed into the two MC outlets, then the other end submerged into the MC under brake fluid. Getting the air bubbles out took about 15 min of steady pumping slowly while letting the micro bubbles dissipate. Anyway, pickup a pair of soft lines that go to the front calipers if you don't have a spare set for this process. I grabbed my spare used set from the spare box for this purpose. When I did this on the DD sedan, the new MC came with two plastic fittings and rubber hoses for bench bleeding but not this brand.

Second hint: just replace the MC at the same time in order to lower your blood pressure! I removed the MC out of the way, which gave me ample room to pull out the BB. I don't have ABS so that also helped.

Well done on the BB replacement. I had my younger son help with the install - for the same reasons :)

cheers,
george.
