I got the truck back today, along with the original axles. My mechanic was as surprised as I that it needed new ones, given its mileage. Said he's pulled axles out of rigs that had 240k and the axles were fine. Hopefully it's not going to be a quirk with my particular LX. He also changed the seals and changed the diff. fluid.

Here are some better shots of my rig. I do like it a lot - may it need nothing for a good long while!
