Yep just like you said Lou, on your back head toward the motor, reach up there toward the tailgate, that area right above the rear body mount bracket should be rubber sheeting, so toward the tailgate then. Good luck there, let us know how it goes.Rich

Yes, there are small "windows" (covered with rubber sheet pinned to the body) on the front side of that boxed section directly above the body mounts. That had me too for a while when we did the '55 :)

Can you use a rad hose for the fuel filler hose? What about a silicone elbow.

Charles, I can find straight hose w/o problems; the problem is finding a hose with the elbow to replace the gas filler hose that is badly cracked although not leaking for now.........a straight non reinforced gas hose when bent to a 45 degree angle tends to collapse and kink at the bend; the reinforced hose I have run across is way too stiff to take the short radius bend we need.......am continuing to look; please tell me about the "silicone" elbow you mentioned............

Lou

Charles; thank you again:) they look great but the elbows are a bit pricey at 41.96 w/o shipping......they do have a connecting hump hose at 9.99; would have to use the stright hoses anyway and with the "hump" in the middle as a flex connector........:hhmm: how to get them sealed together?, and how much flex can I get w/o kinking?..........any thoughts on which way to go?.........TIA

gas filler hose replacement

doing some scrounging for gas filler hose; came across this site; Goodyear® Engineered Products :: Fuel Fill Hose SAE 30R6
there was no one local in the state of Alabama who had any idea what I was talking about; had to contact Pacific Sales at 714 670 3100 to purchase
Goodyear part # 59208
went ahead and ordered on C.C. around 28$ not including shipping regular mail, will let y'all know how it goes but felt it was promising and what sold me was it is one piece; am a bit leery of having to fab fuel lines that if they fail will be dripping on my exhaust pipe:eek: HTH;

Yes, they do look nice but they are not cheap. They work good on the turbo output.

:wrench:well, not a lot to show for this evening..........worked on the rear window mechanism, cleaned it lubed the gear, rollers, tracks and found that the window glass rubber is pretty much gone; ended cutting about 80% of it out as a temp. fix....... leaving the better pieces as small sections for the glass to ride/sit on...........:hhmm:do not recall window glass channel rubber being mentioned on Heath's thread on weather stripping...the channel itself will need to be worked on as it has a lot of rust...just hate to open a can of rust bullets till I have a large area to use it on:cheers:

Lou, take your hose to an exhaust shop and ask them to bend a pipe to match the angle, just a couple inches shorter on the ends, then use stick hose to mate the pipe to the tank and to the filler neck.

i had to do that on a radiator hose years ago...works slick and a lot easier to deal with later on since you can always get stick hose.

Darn Inge..........that is a slick idea:clap:; you have to be smart to make things look simple<smile>; OK; I will see how it goes with the 2 1/8 90' elbow I ordered but when I get the old rubber off am going to take it to the exhaust fabber to see if he can bend me an elbow either in stainless or copper pipe.........thanks Inge and have fun at Moab:cheers::beer:

a minitruck booster will NOT fit a 69s firewall with a 2F carb

:bang:well, spent the entire afternoon and nothing accomplished except definitly a toyota minitruck master/booster will NOT fit a 69 fj55 firewall with a stock 79 2F and carb........earlier part of the day was spent looking over junkyards till I found a lovely 86 toy minitruck with few miles whose owners grandson lost control in the rain and wrapped it around a telephone post!!!!!!; the booster and master looked perfect! spent couple of hours getting the assembly + lines out as I had to climb in the cab from the back window....:eek:got it back and the install was just a dry run to see if there was anyway I could get it to fit......:bang:impossible w/o removing carb or intake manifold which I hate to do as the 79 2F was running beautifully and don't want to start things leaking to take it apart without knowing wheather the minitruck booster/master will fit.........:hhmm:
questions to the group
#1.. anyone install an F carb on a 2F manifold?; positives/ negatives?
#2..anyone install an f Manifold on a 2F? pros?/downsides?
#3.. degnol's solution on the 40/55 tech section with a corvette dual master cyl. is becoming more attractive but I feel that would need to at least boost the front system via a remote booster to compensate for the fj 55s weighing at least 25% more ........+ would need to fab an adaptor plate and my welding skills are pretty putrid,
TIA
only thing accomplished productive was to kroil oil the corroded phillips head screws that hold the small metal panels in place to access the rear body to frame mounts...........tried several times to get them to move with kroil oil, impact hammer and heat but <zero> will let them sit overnight and also will need to purchase some new body to frame bolts:cheers:

Lou, Not sure how I made mine work, but I did. I do remember doing some grinding on the carb. Can't remember what, though.

thanks lou. will do.

kind of hard to see, but here's the pipe i had made up for my radiator, with it's rubber sleeves.

Chris, it is not so much the carb body but the acessories that come with it........the intake for the PCV, the throttle linkage mount and arm and the small vacume lines that feed into the carbs body.......did you run a 2F carb or an F?
Inge.........brilliant.........next chore is to get the gas tank hooked up :)

Lou, this is what you need to do! It's the first cut that's scary, after that you don't have any options but finish it up! I was inspired by the Jan/Feb Toyota Trails. Now an OEM booster will fit without any issues at all!!

If you need the Man-a-fre GM booster adaptor I have one I'll be selling. I got it before I knew about this.

?????????? Charles; what have you done??!!

Charles....am bumfuzzled:confused:, and in awe....you have done it to me again:clap:........did you take of the entire upper half of a firewall and graft it onto yours?.......wow:clap:.........notice it must have been a later one as it has the 4 bolt pattern for the booster, think this is what 73guppy is planning on doing.........to his 70 restoreIIRC.......the firewall on the 79 donor is terribly rotten :frown: and there is a vent in the 69 that later pigs did not have..........thinking more towards the gm dual circuit option with a remote booster for the front disks or exchanging the 2F carb for an F series carb...........just need more info as MAF does not list it anymore:frown:.......pix......here in the upper left is the 69s firewall with the large drivers vent outlined in red and the opening for the clutch master cyl. in yellow..the other two are of the rust damage the 79 has with holes outlined in green and the rest is paper thin!......:crybaby:TIA

Lou

from the pix you can tell that on the original 69 firewall there is very very little room to maneuver/move things towards the DS..........what with the large DS vent and the fact that the clutch master is beneath this vent......
....:hhmm:would have to transfer the entire later model firewall with steering column, gas, clutch and brake pedals; thinking more and more towards Degnol's solution with a GM dual circuit master only I would like to boost the front system via a remote booster.....would need an adaptor; he fabbed his own and MAF used to offfer one in the past but could not find it on their website when I looked:frown:....
question for Charles, cruiser-guy......is this the kind of set up MAF used to offer? TIA.

pix are from Degnol's set up showing how the GM dual circuit master clears the 2F engine..
and a "teaser"; rear end of an early 69 with the original but rusted out license light:D

That is exactly what I am doing! You can read about it in the Jan/Feb 2008 Toyota Trails. There's a few more pictures here at my thread on my '67 FJ45LV resto https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owner...v-resto-thread-67-central-american-model.html both from the virgin uncut firewall and as I slowly cut away the extra stuff that I didn't need.

If you need a GM adaptor that MAF used to sell I have one that I got about 3 years ago, well before the Toyota Trails came out. I will be selling it and it's brand new, I only opened the box to look at it. If you want pictures or the MAF part number I can give you all that. I like the Toyota Trails solution much better so I went that way!

Charles; your solution on the 45 build is inspiring BUT 'cause of time, logistics........AND the 79s firewall being very rotten would prefer to go the route you had intially thought about.......can you send the MAF part number?; do you have the adaptor in Canada?
