Charles, thank you again for the follow up.......gosh, the adaptor looks a bit thick<long> was thinking the MAF one was more along the lines of the one Degnol fabbed.......the problem is the clearence with the 2F carb and manifold :frown:, do you know how long it is from mounting surface to mounting surface? TIA

Lou

Lou, there is no way that the long brake booster adapter will work in a 55. You would be just pushing the booster and master closer to the carb, without dealing with the side to side spacing issue.

Graft the firewall. Its easier on a 55, than on the 40. you dont have to deal with much internal supports like the 40.

Yes, the adaptor is primarily the size it is to avoid the strengthening rib on the older '40's and '45's. That's not a problem for the '55.

stiffening rib and clearence

Brett, thanks for the observation...... you are right on target; this 69 also has the stiffening rib similar to that on the early fj40s and 45s.....outlined in red..just a lot lower but wider.......took measurements this AM I can see how the leangth of the MAF adapter would push the booster forwards even more:hhmm: creating more of an interference on the carb side:bang:..

well back to the planning stage.........
:hhmm:Mark A. observed that an F carb would help with the clearence.........but for the life of me have not been able to find where an F carb has been installed on a 2f Manifold on this or the tech forum.......would prefer to leave the 2F manifold in place as there were no leaks and the F manifold has a bad reputation for leaking:frown:

TIA

firewall transplant sounds and looks like the cleanest way to go......also the most labor intensive and time consuming and am under time constraints:frown:

fire wall hole

the PO left this big hole in the 69s PS fire wall; cut out the same area on the 79 this evening to use it as a patch........more pix to follow........battery went dead taking pix of floor pans:frown:

update

Got the adaptor and GM dual circuit installed this evening..........finally :frown:...........overtime at work is killing my cruiser time....:crybaby:
had to grind a notch out of the rib and corner of the carb throttle plate........but have brakes now after bench bleeding the GM master; everything fit well but still have to go with the cable throttle route to get the gas pedal hooked up; one problem; the 69 brake yoke rod is too short; although I adjusted it all the way out; well, I left about 1/2 inch threaded in the yoke and was just making a dry run.....don't feel comfortable about unwinding it any more than that; any thoughts on longer yoke rods?; mine is about 3 1/4 inches; could probably use a 4 incher adjustable one.. ..........but it fit and now have brakes:bounce::bounce2:
will have to go the cable route for the carb. and would like to leave the 2f Carb in it as it was running beautifully till it was shut down........Mark A.'s solution is elegant, totally toyota but would entail taking down a nicely running engine carb and manifold set up.still might have to go that rout BUT for now; have a dual circuit brake system......thanks to Both Degnol and Mark.A.:cheers::beer::cheers:

more rust on the 79

:steer:why the 79 body could not be saved?.....it was rotted out beneath the fiberglass and bondo; in places you could punch through with a wood pencil!.pix of the PS"a" pillar and PS rear corner....just the tip of the iceberg:frown:

removed a 3 speed floor shifter GB along with a Downey adaptor + chevy Bellhousing for a CSB swap....from the abandoned 69 conversion.....the floor shifter and TC is promised to another mudder; anyone interested in the Downey+ BH?; shoot me a PM; the CSB is totally crapped out & IMO not worth screwing with....but if interested you are welcome to it also:cheers: HTH

update

DS floor was rusted out after I hit it with the wire wheel :crybaby: ..........lots more than showed on the surface....amazing how much crap you find under the toyota floor covering:crybaby: also was having a very frustrating time trying to source anyone who could fab floor patches and make a patch for the hole in the PS where the CSB had been shoveled by the PO.....so after just about giving up on the body transplant idea stumbled across a master sheet metal fabber close by....fellow by the name of " Chip Parsons"...he rebuilt "old Chub's and my floor boards:bounce::bounce2:his contact info is on the floorboard thread; the price....:D very modest! HTH

Looks like a great project so far Lou.
I'm planning a body swap as well and I've picked up a lot from this thread. You mentioned that you used Scorchers 2 jack trick to swap the bodies.Do you have any pics or a link to that.I'm thinking of getting a forklift or hiab but may end up going this route.

Now that this thread is resurrected you'll have to get busy.
