May 15-17 is Uhwarrie w/ ONSC and now UC and possibly Ga cruisers.
I don't want to do Memorial day weekend, that runs us to the 1st, 8th or 22nd of May.
I like the 1st best. Any one else??

May 1st is a no go for me.
That seems to leave 8th or 22nd.
It needs to be a Saturday so shops etc are open for the women folk
and the sports can get some cold refreshments.

Pit stops are important too. :grinpimp:

Could schedule the 8th with the 22nd as a backup date in the event of foul weather
on the 8th.

Just thinking out loud.

Cruisers of all types could have a good time. Maps and such and meeting spots let people sort of "do their own pace" trip. Heck a Mini Vans might be the ticket. The FZJ80, Coach, would be soooooo nice.

Nice ain't what I'm looking for. I like it a little rougher. ;)

Both may dates work for me at this point.

No wifey for me... she doesn't like going fast.

my wife will only go if we find a non drowsy motion sickness remedy...or she drives the entire time. :(

Remind her Hendersonville and Brevard area have some fine shopping. Good eats.
Cold drinks. Site seeing too. Lynn might go and even drive the B depending on her mood and Sprite's requirements.
;)

All depending on weather. :grinpimp:

A Saturday drive 5/8/10

First off sorry about this being a thread hijack...

On May the 8th say 10ish I'll be at the Boiled Peanut guy's stand near
Wildcat Wayside pull over on Hwy 11. This is near the junction of
#276 and #11 in Northern Greenville County. Look for the blue bugeye. (easy to spot)

If you get to the split of #11 and #276 coming from the Greenville area ya just missed it by less than 1/4 mile on your right. ( Paris Mountain is sort of along your way from G'ville and only takes
a few minutes to do...just saying)

Coming from Pumpkintown, or from the West say from ATL on #11(exit off #85 onto #11)), it is just past
where #276 merges onto #11 on the left.
Just a wide pull over and the ol peanut guy's stand.
It's also point of the end of the trip. Right back where ya started but NO back
tracking.

River Falls Road (UC's trash pickup road) is just back up on #11 toward the East
or toward Cleveland. F Mart marks the spot. Man....would it be too early to get one of those hot dogs?
This is where it starts. Nice road. Goes by Dead Man's Corner. Some 2nd gear corners.

To Devil's Fork (uh oh) on right. On your right you will see the neatest driveway I know.
Paved creek bed you have to drive ACROSS in the middle of the driveway. I have to fight Ol Gundy's wheel when he passes that driveway. Screamin' Mimi couldn't care less.

To Gap Creek stop sign. Go right. Climb the Saluda Grade. Down shifts have been known to happen.

To #25 stop sign. Go left onto the ..arghhhhhhh...Highway interruptus!.

To Flatrock exit. On right.
At stop sign go left to Flat Rock then
Hendersonville.
Lunch somewheres.

#64 over to Brevard.Traffic.....arghhhhh. Pit stop.

#276 (ahhhh) down to point of beginning.
It shouldn't take too long. The brave with me will stop at Bob's Place.

WEATHER permitting.
if not, May 22nd is raincheck day.

All would be welcome to join us for a springtime leisurely cruise
through mountains.

Paging Bill, do you think a Mini Cooper S would be fine for long commutes. I currently drive about 700 miles a week, but that will change in about 6 months to just about 250 a week. I would think it would be fine since I see alot of Coopers with 40k-50k mile on them and only 2 years old.

I have driven them and RELLY want one. The wife thinks I am crazy, and figured I would have changed my mind by now. But 1.5 years later I still see them on the road and want one just as bad as I did after the first test drive.

I will be compromising with an Auto for the Mrs., but I hear they have a great auto and performance doesn't suffer. Just the joy of slamming gears goes away.

Well Bill hasn't responded yet, and neither has anyone else about my Mini inquiry. I guess you guys think they are for girls.:princess:

Anyway, I had originally been driving the new generation Mini S's and really like them, but last night at the Nissan place next to my house I saw an awesome blue/silver one. I stopped and saw it is the first generation, but an 06'. The last year for the original body style. Well after test driving it, it is worlds apart from the new 07'-10' models. Much better driver, and the supercharger is better than the turbo. It really drives like an enthusiests car, where the newer ones had a lot of softening done to them.

Anyway, it hasn't sold in a year, and had been bought at an auction in Florida by Gene Reed in Charleston. Didn't sell in 3 months, and was bought by the dealer in Columbia. Still hasn't sold in 4 months and they want to sell it for less than what they paid. Right around trade-in value. I called MINI and got the full history, it's a very low mileage car, without any major issues since new. A 1 owner car, and it is loaded. I think the reason it hasn't sold is 1, the market is flooded right now with new generation cars, which I think most everyday drivers prefer, and 2 it's automatic. I actually want the automatic for the Mrs. but most Mini guys like the stick. It's a 6 speed Aisin auto, with paddle shifters and actually works really nice. It is nothing like the CVT on the base Coopers that people have been having horror stories about.

Anyway, enough rambling, please help with some advice as to whether or not you guys like these cars.

Thanks,

I might like them now but drove an Mini for a couple days in Holland and promptly sold it...plenty of pep for that small of a car but I felt like a Shriner in the circus at 6'2" and 220 lbs when i was working out and running all the time.

Just two small for me after that first impression though I hear BMW did wonders with fixing that feeling of being so small and improving their overall ride and handling.

Now give me a Datsun Fairlady, or better yet a Triumph TR4a....and I dont feel like that. :)
