WOW - now its all coming together - nice work

It's funny how something as small (or large?) as getting the tub back on can really energize the process. Still a lot of work, but I'm on it :D

Chris couldn't make it for the tub move (he was stuck in traffic waiting for the President's motorcade), but came over shortly afterward. We looked that thing over from every angle possible and talked and stared for at least an hour - nice break, actually :) . We also talked about his project. I think seeing the mule go together encourages him to spend time on his truck. He has a start-up construction business here which demands most of his time, but he still finds time now to do a little work on his beast each week. AND he has someone to commiserate with and help with the :wrench::wrench: :D

Amazing resto in some challenging conditions! I love seeing that tub on! That's got to feel like some progress.
Butt

Definitely feels like forward motion now :D

Spent most of Sunday cleaning paint, Rust Bullet, dirt and rust out of the threads of the captive nuts and nut plates on the tub. It was long day without much visible progress, but necessary work.

Today, I installed floor pan plugs, a lot of miscellaneous bits, and the front wiring harness. And the hard part of the front door hinges. I have small hands and still find the upper hinges darned difficult to get to.

Front wiring harness - original, in good shape, no hacks :D - so I cleaned it up, wrapped most of it in corrugated loom. All connectors were marked when the harness came out, so getting it hooked back up has been pretty painless. I see I got the fresh air and the warm air controls backward, so I'll have to swap them tomorrow.

I was just thinking on how this could make a good movie. It could be about cultural differences and the Malawian goverment through the eyes of an embassy worker. The common thread being the Blue Mule. Kind of a comedic approach to third world strife and you could use many of the funny occurrences with the panel beaters for the humor. It doesn't need to be a "Car Movie" but more of a social movie kind of along the lines ot "The gods must be crazy" Well what do you think? Are there any screen writers here on this forum?
I think it would be very funny. It could be called "The re-birth of the Blue Mule" or something like that.
Does anyone have a better idea on the title?

OMG it looks great! that wiring harness sure did clean up well.

Hey where did you get these and if you don't mind me asking do you have the part number for just the rubber gaskets or do you have to buy the hinges and then you get the gaskets?

You aren't allowed to finish because then I will have to find a new fav thread to lurk in :frown:

It looks awesome, keep up the great work!

No shortage of places to lurk here ;)

I'm sure the saga will continue after the build is done. Gotta get it out and scratch up the new paint a little :D

Wow - 15 minutes of fame  Wonder who would possibly want to play my role? :hhmm:

Somehow, I think it would appeal to a rather limited audience - just like "The Gods Must Be Crazy".

:lol::lol::lol:

Thanks, Okie. The rubber is molded to the hinge, so ya hafta buy the hinge to get the rubber. Must be some kinda marketing scheme :) Toyota just painted the original seals when they painted the tub. Maybe they last longer that way?

I bought new hinges from Toyota, since the rubber on mine was getting pretty bad, missing some chunks and leaking in the rain. The hinges come unpainted, so I had them painted to match, but with the rubber bits masked. I think I like the look.
