On my new to me FZJ80, the gas vapor smell in the cabin was pretty intense.
I checked the canister per FSM and it was blocked.
Figured I stay Toyota and ordered 77704-60290 the "Toyota OEM Genuine CANISTER SUB-ASSY, CHARCOAL"
It needed a bit of modification to fit, in that the canister has some plastic mounting lugs that needed to be ground off. Otherwise, perfect fit.
It was a little spendy at $219.
In the second picture, you can see the plastic lugs that need to come off. And you'll need about 10mm longer bolts for the canister brackets

WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Driving around, it's like a new car - the smell is GONE. So yes, gas vapor smell in cabin was fixed with new charcoal canister. A 1 banana job.

Not an 80 but same process.

I elected to drill out the bb check valve.

Are you guys finding that this improves your fuel economy?

Replaced the charcoal canister with the AC delco unit. Economy is now verified at 16L/100km.

Thats a huge change!

That's after just replacing the charcoal canister? Or did you do other stuff at the same time?

16L/100km is about the best I see with a 5 speed mannish fzj80
