Have a BJ73, currently have 31x10.5R15 Kumho muddies, considering changing to 32x11.5R15 BFG KM2s, is the extra size going to be a problem with the 3B? Will I have noticeably less performance/worse economy?

I'm thinking about doing the exact same thing with my Prado. It came with nice 31s but has a BFG 32 spare, and I would like to have 5 matching tires. I will be interested to see what others have to say.

My BJ73 has 33x12.5 MTs that are worn down to 32". I've never had other tyres on it, though it will have 31s soon (for roadworthy inspection). Cruising speed is 95ish. It can go slightly faster but I imagine EGTs would be very high. I get 10.5-14l/100 out of it.

The speedo says about 2% faster than you are going.

My speedo says I'm doing 5% slower and I can happily cruise at 100-105 with my 31s

Hello,

33x12.5 are good but tend to rub when maneuvering through tight spaces. I would say 33x10.5.

Hope this helps.

Also anyone have pics of a 73/74 with 32s?

My BJ74 with 285/75/16 on 16x8 80 Series steel wheels with 1.5 inch Spidertrax spacers (net 3 inches backspace). OME 2 inch suspension. A naturally aspirated 3B will not like tires taller than 29 inches.....

When my mates daughter brought her 3b non turbo BJ70 she wanted to try some bigger tyres so we put my old 35" simexes on it so she could see what it would drive like and 5 years later she's still driving around on 35" simexes albeit a new set coz she wore my old ones bald, it always drove fine off road with the big tyres but lacked any top speed on the road but it was like that regardless of whatever size tyres it had on it, she's now added a turbo to it and put a heavier clutch in it and it goes well still. I'd doubt you'd notice any or much difference going from 31" to 32" tyres

I'm curious, no rubbing issues with the 35" tires? Spacers? I've got a BJ74 and looking at a set of 35" Toyo's

theres a little bit of contact and rubbing under full spring compression but nothing too major, its on old man emu lifted springs and no body lift, the rims are 8" with the centres cut out and flipped so I think the backspacing is around 30mm so they are a big offset rim. The tyre height when new and inflated to 30psi was exactly 900mm

Thanks, that is a deep dish wheel now. Essentially it's 60 mm spacer. I'll have to work that out
Got to get a set of those Simexes one day, they seem to be a kick ass tire!
Have you got a better pic of that truck?

Just wondering if that be 2" lifted springs ?

I ran ran 33s on my bj73 with a 3b in it and it was fine, the speedo was 5k out but that was about it,I run 35s now with no problems just slower but am planning on changing the diff ratios at some stage

I ran the 33s in a 15 x 8 -22mm run and had no running at full lock even when I had standard height springs

I ran 33s on my lj78 prado with a 2lte engine in it and 1st gear ratio was to high,it use to drive me crazy and it ran about 2 degrees hotter,I would imagine it would be ok if it was manual,I have a friend with a kzj78 prado and he runs 33s with no prob and 2 inch lift
