BJ60 - no heat from heater...

You know, sometimes it's nice to just lay out a problem out loud in order to solve it...

As I'm sure many of you already know from the above pics - the heater core was plumbed incorrectly.

I switched the return hose to the t-stat tie-in (as Roalco and Turbo45 pointed out initially) and BOOM - big heat!

I don't know why I thought it was tied in correctly to begin with - glad I checked again.

Thanks everyone for your help.

(Blows dust off).

1981 BJ60 with very little heat.
Checked diverter door and fan.
Engine gets warm.
Heater hoses get hot.
No heat.

I can see how original poster needed to plumb heater into water pump… mine is already like that.

One hose from nipple on water heater.
Second hose into the back of the head.

It’s cold and snowing in truckee. Help.

Its possible your heater core is full of mud or your heater tap ie corroded internally.. take both hoses off the heater core connections at the firewall and shove a garden hose into one.

ok. I’ll try that. I think the core must be the problem. There’s no valve at moment; deleted.

I’ll report back.

Go to inlet side of heater. Attach a extension hose and use a shop vac to push thru the
system. The heater cores on 60’s are poor design cause the bottom just basically plugs up as the inlet and
outlet are at the top. Use a rad flush solution and pour it into the core after you flush it. Let it sit.
Then push the rad flush out of the system until it is clear, pour in clean water and flush thru
until you get same clean water coming out. Then using air flush it and blow it thru dry.
At this point see if you get air both ways.
Flush and clean the whole block at the same time. No sense flushing gunk from dirty block
into clean heater core.
